Jonathan

"Is everything okay? How is she?" I ask as soon as Anne picks up her cell. The silence that stretches afterwards only makes me more anxious.

I knew I shouldn't have left! What the fuck was I thinking?!

Sam... You owe it to him. He's put in the blood sweat and tears, not to mention long hours and taken my advice, without my signing power it's all for naught.

Izzy was right, I can't leave him hanging, but that doesn't make leaving her any easier, not even knowing that Anne is with her. I know there's nothing she wouldn't do to help Izzy, but it should be me.

Seeing her number flashing on my phone made me leave the boardroom faster than the flash. Anne would only call me for something serious...

"Jonathan," Izzy whimpers and my heart stops.

"Izzy," I breathe out, fighting against this helpless paralysis. My worst fears are coming true, she's breaking and I'm not there to hold her together. "Angel what's wrong?"

"I don't know," she squeaks out sniffing into the phone. "I was fine and then I wasn't... and I said I'd call if I wasn't but you're busy, I shouldn't have-"

"Hey, hey, hey," I coo, cutting her off. "You did exactly what you should do when you feel like this."

"But your meeting," she mumbles.

"Will be there when I get back," I cut in, ending her doubt. "Izzy, where's Anne?"

"Here," she says between sniffs. "She tried to calm me down then gave me her phone."

"Good girl," I praise, happy that she's not alone. "So tell me about your room?"

"My room?" she parrots back, caught completely off guard by my question.

"We'll you're not sharing hers or Jacks are you?" I tease praying I'm making the right move. Izzy is an open book to me most days, but that's because her eyes tell me everything she can't, something I'm missing a lot right now.

"No," she blurts out through a mix of a sob and giggle.

Okay, heading in the right direction!

"So?" I prompt, trying to keep the momentum going.

"It's nice," she says, pausing and I'm sure shrugging. "There's a window bench, I was reading..."

Izzy trails off and her voice sounds once again troubled. Keeping her mind focused on a better tract is more difficult when I'm not there with her.

"Sounds perfect, way better than my view..."

"Oh?" she asks, perking up.

"Sky scrapers and smog," I mumble, walking down the hall to the end and looking outside. "Did I ever tell you how glad I was that you picked the house you did for us? I love the space and quiet, but I love coming home to you more."

"You do?" she whispers back.

"Of course I do Izzy," I chide. "All I can think about is how long until I can come home."

"No you don't," she groans.

"I do," I counter with a chuckle. "When I get home we're spending a couple days in bed."

Grinning, I lean against the window, picturing a lazy day, sweats, junk food and endless cuddles. As much as I think she needs the support, I need to be the one giving it.

"Would you like that?" I murmur.

"Very much so, Sir," she whispers back.

My cheeks now hurt from how hard I'm grinning. I hear the door open behind me and someone clears their throat to get my attention. Sighing, I turn to see Sam.

'Is everything okay?' He mouths. I nod, holding up my palm to ask for five more minutes. Sam nods and slips back into the boardroom giving me a few more minutes of peace.

"So is Anne taking good care of you?" I ask, turning my attention back to Izzy.

"Mmhmm," she mumbles, sounding more relaxed. "We're just waiting for Jack and then we're going to watch movies."

"Pre gaming without me hmm?" I tease. "I guess we'll have to find our own way to make it special."

Izzy just giggles and sighs contently on the other end of the line.

"How you feeling now?" I muse, already knowing the answer.

"Better. Thank you Jonathan." Her voice is light and unburdened, allowing me to relax a bit once more.

"Any time Angel. I'm just a phone call away and I'll see you soon, okay?" I pause waiting for her confirmation.

"I'll be waiting," she whispers back. I can almost hear the smile in her voice.

"Like I need more motivation to blow this town," I groan, earning a giggle. "I love you, be good for Anne ok?"

"Yes Sir, I love you too."

She hangs up a moment later leaving me looking at my phone where the photo she sent, wearing my shirt on my desk looks back at me. In such a short time I've fallen hard and somehow it snuck up on me.

I head back to the board room before Sam comes back out and take my seat next to him. Knowing that Izzy is in a good place lets me turn my full attention back to the matter at hand and hopefully that renewed focus will expedite affairs.

"Lawyers are picking it apart, with any luck you'll be free to go by lunch tomorrow," Sam whispers, nodding to the bank of people on the far side of the table. "Everything okay?"

"Sorry Sam, just a bit of domestic issues," I mumble, waving him off.

"If it wasn't this high steaks-"

"No, I totally get it," I cut in as I scan the documents in front of me. "It was just a fluke of bad timing."

"She must be pretty special to have you this worked up, I don't think I've ever seen you anything but calm and collected," he muses.

"She is," I grin. "With all your new found freedom, you'll have to swing by and have dinner and meet Izabella."

"I'll hold you to that, if this goes through we'll both be sitting pretty." He's not wrong, Sam is one of the few projects that I remained partnered in after he was able to repay my startup investment. In a matter of years he built his tech company from a garage operation to a fortune 500 one and has cashed in.

"I believe we have all we need for tonight gentlemen," the lead lawyer states, gathering his papers. "We'll be in touch in the morning. Congratulations Mr. Lee, Mr. Fletcher."

With the meeting over and a long day behind us Sam drops me off at my hotel and I call it a night, ordering in room service. Looking at the most underwhelming chicken caesar wrap I'm reminded of the first thing Izzy cooked for me. From day one she's taken care of me in her own little way, making sure I eat when I get lost in work and a perfect sounding board. There's nothing I wouldn't do to repay her.

Me: How's the movie marathon going?

I head to the bathroom and strip to take a quick shower and hear my phone go off mid way. Izzy sent a picture of three sets of feet under blankets and a giant bowl of popcorn.

Izzy: On to the 5th Element! Wish you were here...

Me: Soon. If everything goes well, I'll be home tomorrow night. Just wanted to say goodnight.

I flop into bed, watching the chat bubble blink as she replies. After too long a video clip appears with Anne holding the camera up and her, Izzy and Jack all wish me a dramatic good night. My eyes are glued to Izzy the whole time. She's smiling and giggling throughout and just what I needed to see to drift off to unburdened sleep.
