Finally the day of my departure had arrived. My body literally shivered when I had to deliver my last letter to Bondita. It felt like a thousand volcanoes exploded within me at the same time. The guilt of telling lies and hurting her, the agony caused due to the idea of separation, ate me up from inside. However, the only factor that motivated me to go ahead was her life, her better future. In order to gain certain things in life, we should make some sacrifices.

"Only if I make a sacrifice now, she will get her freedom in future.", I thought, as I walked towards Bondita's caretaker's room. She was a kind-hearted nun, who agreed to deliver my letter only after I left the campus. At first she was very much against the idea of hurting a young girl but when I explained her everything, she promised to take good care of Bondita and also assured to deliver Bondita's news to me every week. Before leaving, I also handed over a gift pack to the sister and asked her to give the same to Bondita.

It was a wall hanging of Durga Ma, which  I bought for Bondita in Mahabalipuram. I thought of giving it on a special occasion, but, since we were on the verge of separation, I had to give it on this occasion along with a small note.

"Do not waste your tears for my sake. You are swearing this to me. Save them for the day when you go about learning the real problems existing in the country. That day, taking inspiration from every drop of tear that comes out of your eyes, you stand strong and fight for the right. Henceforth, I am handing over your responsibility to your caretaker and your Durga ma. Good bye forever.", was what I wrote.

At that moment, this phrase kept ringing in my head,

"Rishta tera mera....Rishta tera mera....(The relationship that we share.....).

I came out of the campus crying like a child that had lost his way. For one last time I wanted to go to the hostel ward to check on her but I refrained. I rushed out of the premises even before she came out of her room. Finally, on boarding the ship, I sat down in my room and opened the diary that we purchased. I pasted Bondita's photo on it and named it 'Sakhi'.

The lines that I wrote on the first page were,

"Mein ladunga tere khatir,

Jaan bhi chahe jaaye.

Tere daman pe magar ek daag na lagne paye..

Bhasm ho jaao bhale mein,

Aanch na tujh pe aaye.....

Thod dunga who diware,

Tujhe jo kaid karegi,

Dard tera hain ab dard mera.........

Rishta tera mera...rishta tera mera...."

I will fight for you, even if I have to die in the process.
