With much enthusiasm to meet Bondita and confess my feelings, I drove as fast as I could. After parking my car outside the Das mansion, I picked up the gifts and walked through the garden with a thumping heart. The whole idea of placing my heart before her indeed made me restless. Although we are not strangers, it was essentially the first time I was going to meet her as a lover.

I was so much preoccupied with Bondita's thoughts that I didn't bother to think about the reactions of her family on seeing me at the odd hours or did I notice the presence of Chandrachur in the lawn, until I heard him taking Bondita's name. If it was someone else, I should not have eavesdropped on their conversation, but Chadrachur raised numerous suspicions in my mind that I couldn't help hiding myself behind the bushes and listen to what he was talking about 'my Bondita'.

"Is the person ready to play his part? Ask him to be careful and not to mess with me. Otherwise, it will prove disastrous for both of you.", warned Chandrachur.

To which, the other person replied, "You leave the burden on to me, sir. I have instructed him strictly that he should disappear from the venue when it is time for the auspicious moment of the wedding."

"Good.", Chandrachur continued, "Now no one can stop me from marrying Bondita."

I was shocked beyond a point. What did he just say, marry Bondita?! In spite of being a married man, he wanted to marry again and that too whom, my Bondita. It got on my nerves. By then, I was fully convinced that my doubts about him were absolutely true. He was a double-faced, nasty man who was cheating thakuma and others. The thought of the misfortune of his wife pricked my heart. What hell that poor girl must be going through? She might not even know about his dirty plan of marrying her own cousin.

In a fit of rage, to teach him a lesson, I was about to march towards him but stopped, to listen to their conversation further.

"If you don't mind sir, can I ask how will you get married to Bondita Das if the supposed to be groom runs away?", asked the other one.

Chandrachur then replied with an evil laugh, "This world is still a woman's enemy. Bondita might have acquired the highest degree in London; but she is still a woman, an inferior object in the society where man is the ultimate. It is essentially the woman who is blamed for every stupid act of man. In such a case, when the groom flees at the right moment, the blame is apparently put on the bride. That is when I will play my part. I will convince thakuma that I can marry an abandoned girl like Bondita, in order to protect her dignity and the honour of the family. That will be the best deal which no one can deny. I am sure even the guests would support my proposal."

I was livid at his thoughts and found it very difficult to cool down my boiling blood. For all the filth he had spoken about women, I wanted to beat him black and blue, thereby reducing him to a fit-for-nothing mass of flesh. Besides, for planning to ruin my Bondita's life, I felt a strong urge to kill him. If I was still the same Anirudh as I was six years ago, I should have straight away killed him then and there. However, it seemed with age grew my patience; if not fully, at least to a certain degree and I have learnt to handle things with intelligence rather than impulsiveness. Yet, I promised to myself that I will teach Chandrachur a tough lesson no matter what.

"By the way, how does that guy look? Can he convince thakuma that he will be a suitable groom to Bondita?", Chandrachur asked his crime partner.

"He is indeed good looking sir. Well, do you want me to arrange his family too? I don't think thakuma will give away her granddaughter without seeing any family background, will she?"

"I do not want to spend any extra money for the fake parents. Instead, I will introduce my distant relatives as his parents. All that you have to do is send the guy here by ten in the morning.", saying this, Chandrachur sent the man away and went inside the house.
