[ Chapter 6, Page 7]
"Don't you ever dare say something like that to me Y/N Valkrum"
At the beach... Author's POV;
"Y/N..." Garroth called out, his voice urgent as you suddenly ran out. You didn't know why your feet carried you straight to the beach, but after everything that happened, you needed to breathe—needed space.
Deep down, you sensed that ever since you'd arrived, your emotions had been all over the place, as if you weren't fully in control. Something inside you seemed to be pulling the strings, amplifying your feelings, and you couldn't quite grasp why.
"Y/N?" Garroth called again, his footsteps close behind. "Y/N, please..."
"Garroth, I—" you stammered, wiping a tear from your cheek.
He gently reached for your arm, his touch stopping you. "You know he doesn't mean it, right?" he said softly, his voice filled with sincerity as he looked into your eyes.
As much as you appreciated Garroth's words, a part of you felt a flicker of anger. You understood Travis's feelings of betrayal, but you needed to prioritize your own emotions right now. "I don't even know why he would make such a big deal out of this. It was just one small lie!"
"To you, maybe... but to him, you're everything," Garroth said gently. His words rang true. Even though you and Travis had grown up, he still thought the world of you. And yet, you realized you had been neglecting him these past few years. When was the last time the two of you had just hung out? When had you last tried to connect with him?
"I'm not saying you two are—"
"No, I think I get it," you mumbled, staring down at your feet. "I just don't know how to face him right now. I'm not sure how to feel..." Your voice trailed off as your legs gave way, and you sank to the sand, clutching your head. You needed a moment to think, to breathe, to find a way to calm the turmoil inside you.
It was rare for Garroth to see you like this. You had always been the strong one, the one who could keep it together, even in the toughest situations. Under pressure, you were a rock—calm, collected, unyielding. But now, as he looked down at you, his expression softened. Garroth had never been the best at helping people through their darkest moments, but he had his own silly, heartfelt ways of offering comfort. "I know you can," he said quietly.
