When we pulled up to the church next to the cemetery, I could see multiple people I recognised from the boarding school; teachers, old students, even the maintenance people were here. I also recognised some of Sammy's family, who I had seen last when I was 13.
We got out and re-grouped on the sidewalk as my mom went off to Sammy's aunt. Jedd joined us, with puffy eyes.
"Hey guys" he said, voice strained. I hugged him briefly, as did the others.
"How you doing, man?" I asked. He nodded.
"Alright... better than Sammy" he said, sighing. My heart ached at the mention of her name. And the face that she's not doing so good made it hurt. "She cries a lot. I swear, I've never seen her cry so much in my life" he said, looking to us all.
"Do you know where she is?" Gracie asked, her voice small.
"Um, I think she was talking with my mom... or was it my aunt... I don't know" he looked around. "Oh, there she is" he says and we look to his line of vision. She was sitting alone on a bench, staring at the ground. We slowly made our way over to her, my heart tightening as I saw her tear stained cheeks and puffy eyes. She looked up when she heard Gracie's heels on the concrete and looked at us all, her eyes locking with mine. My heart literally hurt so much. I just wanted to hold her and let her cry. Her bottom lip trembled and she embraced Gracie, who ran to her. I was pulled away by my mom to talk to some people.

"It was nice seeing you too, Maureen" I smile to her. I looked around for the gang, and saw them sitting on the bench with Jedd where Sammy was earlier. I made my way over to them and she saw me, our eyes locking again. The others looked to me and smiled sadly. Sammy jumped up and ran to me in her black flats. When she reached me, I lifted her up and her legs wrapped around my waist, and I held her to me tightly, as she sobbed into my shoulder. I saw the others frowning in confusion, and I squeezed my eyes shut, tightening my arms around her.
I didn't want to let her go. Ever.
