Song writing used to come naturally to you. It was your escape from the world around you. When you became a Kpop idol it gave you more of an opportunity to show the world your songs, it was something you loved the most. Especially to see the reactions you got. Song writing was you specialty and was something that you felt the ultimate compassion for. But recently, it's gotten harder to write songs.. to express your feelings and write them out into a song. It had become harder after the passing of your grandmother, although your members were there to support you through it all, you just couldn't seem to find the correct time to do it anymore. It felt like a chore to sit just simply sit down at a desk, or a table, or on the couch with a notebook and pencil in your hand. Your grandmother was a song writer herself, she was the one who introduced you to it. Her songs were pure works of art and there was no denying it. You'd even used a few of her songs for your group in the past.
Losing your grandmother seemed to shut a switch off for you. You couldn't even stand the thought of having to write a new song. Your company was demanding you write more songs for your groups upcoming comeback, but you just couldn't pick up the pencil. It was times like these that you were greatful for living separately from your group, otherwise your members would have been pestering you to get it done.
You sigh while tearing the piece of paper out of the notebook, crumpling it up and throwing it to the ground behind you where multiple balls of paper lay. You remove your glasses and rub your eyes tiredly. It was three in the morning, and you were wracking your brain to try and find some good ideas for a new song. But nothing was coming to you.
It frustrated you. You used to be able to write a new song easily within a day and a half, sometimes even overnight if you worked hard enough. But now it seemed like your brain just couldn't put any effort into it any longer.
You leave your bedroom, walking to the kitchen. Your bare feet pad against the floor of your apartment. It was quiet, everyone was most likely asleep by now. You begin to boil some water for a pot of coffee, knowing that you would need it if you wanted to continue writing.
You lean against the counter, resting your head on your arms. Your phone buzzes on the counter. You lift it up to see an incoming call from an old friend of yours, Min Yoongi. He was your best friend while the two of you were trainees. Yoongi was a rapper for a group named BTS. You answer the phone.
"Hello?" You ask quietly.
"Open your door." His voice is deeper than you remembered it being.
You nibble on your bottom lip and walk across the apartment to the front door, unlocking it and pulling it open. Yoongi stands with his back turned. You lean against the door frame, shutting off your phone while crossing your arms. Yoongi turns around and sighs as he takes in your tired state.
"Jihye told me you were struggling with song writing," he says.
Jihye was a member in your group. You sigh and rub at your eyes. "I um.. yeah, I am, but that doesn't explain why you're here at three in the morning."
Yoongi chuckles. "I'm here to help."
You pull the door open, allowing Yoongi to step inside. He kicks off his shoes and follows you into the kitchen. You pour the coffee into a mug, stirring in some sugar and cream. Yoongi leans against the counter and watches as you take slow sips of the coffee.
"So what exactly are you struggling with?" He asks.
You set the mug of coffee down and sigh. "Everything." You respond.
Yoongi hums and pushes himself off the counter. "Let's get started then."
~
An hour and a half later Yoongi and you are sitting down on the carpeted floor of your living room, multiple crumped up balls of paper thrown about the ground. You groan and run a hand down your face. "I told you, this is hopeless!"
"You're just stressed out," he sighs.
"No I'm not. It's just gotten harder for me to.." you trail off.
Yoongi drops the notebook to the ground as well as his pen, leaning back on his arms as he extends his legs out in front of him. "There's something holding you back. What is it?" He asks.
"Nothing," you shake your head.
"There has to be something." Yoongi says.
You drop the notebook onto the floor and cover your face with your hands. "It's nothing okay." Your voice is stern, yet there's an edge of emotion to it.
Yoongi sighs and crawls closer to you, dropping down right beside you. He reaches his hands out and take your hands into his. His thumb rubs over the back of your hand in a soothing manner. You stare into his dark eyes, there were so many emotions swirling through you at that moment. Yoongi reaches a hand up and tucks a strand of hair behind your ear.
"You can tell me," he whispers.
You stare into his eyes for what seems like forever, your heart thumping loudly in your chest as you try to get the words out to tell him no. But you can't. The flood gates open, your emotions flowing out as your eyes flood with tears. Yoongi pulls you into his embrace when he notices this, he holds you against him as you cry into his chest. This lasts for a few minutes.
When you calm down, you pull away and wipe your eyes. "I'm sorry," you apologize.
"No it's fine," Yoongi shakes his head. "You had to let it out somehow."
You sigh and drop your hands to your lap in defeat. "My grandma passed.. and I've been needing time to myself since, but the company won't allow it. They say I need to focus on the comeback. I know I do, but I just need some time to accept the fact that she's gone. She was the one who motivated me to write songs, who encouraged me to follow my dreams, and everything that I have right now is all thanks to her." You whisper.
"The company is an ass for not giving you at least a week off, but you need to stop pushing yourself.. you're just making yourself more frustrated than you actually need to be. Just take a break. Have a day all to yourself, don't let the company dictate your every move Y/N."
I sigh. "I wish it was that easy."
Yoongi shakes his head and wraps an arm around my shoulders, pulling me into his side. "Things will turn out okay soon. I promise."
"And if they don't?"
"You'll have me beside you, through it all."
