June 2nd

You’re invited to Zach Herron’s seventeenth birthday party. Bring a friend for the night of your lives!

123 Louis Rd, Palmview, Florida

“I can’t believe he invited us. He used to despise me,” Megan laughed.

“What did you do to the poor child?”

“Let's just say his hand wasn’t under control but my knee was, and it hit the right spot.”

We all busted out laughing.

“So, what are we wearing?” Bailey asked once we had all calmed down.

“I don’t know. He did a great job at explaining what type of party it was on this invitation.”

“Yeah, who even sends out paper invitations anymore? It’s the twenty first century, we’re way past that.”

“Maybe you could call Daniel and ask,” Megan teased, hitting Bailey’s leg.

Baileys face turned red and she buried her face in a pillow.

“Does Bailey have something she wants to tell me?” I asked, hitting her with my pillow.

“No-”

“Bailey has been talking to Daniel Seavey for the past three weeks,” Megan blurted.

Bailey raised her head and looked over at Megan. “Oh, you’re dead now.”

“Stop harassing your sister and spill. When did this start?”

“Three weeks ago. We ran into each other after practice one day. He had just gotten done with football and I had just finished cheer. He knocked me down and asked if he could take me out for ice cream to make up for it.” A blush creeped onto her cheeks as she told the story. “After we were done, we exchanged numbers and we’ve been talking since.”

“Bailey!” I screamed, making her jump. “Why didn’t you tell me this?”

“Because I knew this is how you would react.” She sighed, sitting up. “I’ll ask him if he knows.”

“He should, him and Zach are best friends.”

“And Jonah,” Megan chimed in. “And Jack.”

“I thought Jack was friends with Corbyn,” Bailey said, looking at me.

“What? I’ve had three con-”

“Conversations with him, we know,” both the girls said at the same time.

“You’ve said that a million times, Lex. I’m pretty sure that three has turned into a thirty,” Megan said, giving me a look.

“Alright, fine, I’ve talked to him more than three times. But you don’t have to look at me like that.”

-

“Daniel said that it was a ‘mystery’ party and that everyone was wearing masks.”

“So, what do we have to get masks now?”

“Let’s go shopping.”

-

“You would think that the masks would allow me to not see people’s faces, so how can I still tell you who everyone is?” Bailey was walking around with me, not really interested in getting drunk.

“Well then who am I?” Someone came up behind Bailey and covered her eyes.

“Some jerk who is madly obsessed with himself,” she guessed. She laughed before turning around. “I’m kidding. Lex, this is Daniel, Daniel this is Alexa.”

“Hi, I’ve seen you around school,” he said, giving me a hug. Great, so he’s a people person.

“Yeah,” I said awkwardly, returning the hug.

I looked around the yard and the music slowed down. A slow song started playing and couples started dancing.

“My lady,” Daniel said, bowing and grabbing Bailey’s hand. She smiled and followed him to the middle.

Meanwhile, I walked over to a chair and sat down, watching.

“May I have this dance?”

I looked up and locked eyes with Dylan. “Depends, do I need a coupon?"

He smiled and I took his hand, standing up.

We walked to the middle and started dancing.

“So, where’s your mask?” I asked.

“I was not informed that I was supposed to wear one.” He smiled as he spun me around.

“Okay everybody, switch dancing partners in 3, 2, 1, go!”

Dylan spun me around as I landed in the arms of another guy. They were dressed in all black with a black full-face mask and had brown eyes with specks of green.

“Hi,” I said, smiling as the music started to speed up.

“Hey.”

“I’m Alexa, I don’t think we’ve met before.”

“Me neither.”

“Switch partners!”

-

“So, who was the mystery guy,”

Megan teased, poking my side.

“What mystery guy?”

“You know who I’m talking about. The guy you danced with after Dylan. In all black and had a full faced mask. The one who didn’t dance with anyone else except you. THAT mystery guy.”

“I wish I could tell you. I don’t know who he is. He looked so familiar but at the same time I’ve never met him.”

“Well, don’t let him cloud your brain,” Bailey said. “You and Dylan have something special."

“You’ve never met him,” I told her.
“Have to! He delivers pizza to my house.”

I rolled my eyes, smiling. I looked out the window as the car fell into a comfortable silence. Maybe me and Dylan can have something.
