I wrote this based on the headcanon that one of Izuki's parents are Chinese and while they learned Japanese their significant other taught them informal Japanese through puns. Now it's just an Izuki Family thing.

Enjoy!

Hyuga along with Riko boarded the train to start off their weekend. She wanted to call it a date But no date ever consisted of buying protein powder and energy bars for the basketball team/

"Oi, Hyuga." Riko tugged on his sleeve, discreetly pointing at someone in the next cabin. "Is that . . ."

"Eagle-eyes!" Hyuga concluded, making out the mop of hair.

Izuki dressed up in something so formal looking was hard to recognize. The book -they believed was another joke book-he was reading, made him an intellect. Beside him was someone who they knew, too. Just like him, she was reading. Although, they didn't recognize her yet.

Riko smiled to herself and with Hyuga's hand in hers, they made their way to him. They wanted to get back at him for tormenting their group chats with nothing but puns and videos of them in their ugliest moments. When they got to them, their smiles faltered. They were acting like a couple.

"Oi, Izuki," Hyuga greeted, sneaking a glance at the book.

Finding out that he was a linguist a week ago was hard enough to believe, especially when he seemed to be like the person who was never serious about life. But with a girl like [Y/n] by his side, it was harder to believe.

And now that he's reading a book with characters other than Japanese was just too much for them.

"He's reading a joke book in German," Said [Y/n]. "Even across different languages, he's still a dork."

"Why are you dressed like that?" Riko brushed off her presence.

"We attended a conference at Tokyo University. We're heading home now." Answered Izuki with a shut of his book. His tone was off today, More tired than usual. Who knew that he could get tired.

"You guys wanna join us?" Hyuga asked. Much to Riko's dismay.

--

"I'm sorry for ruining your date." Apologized [Y/n] when she and Riko were left alone at the table of the restaurant they all agreed to eat in. "I really thought Shun was dense until I met Hyuga-kun."

Now that was an insult, yet the truth.

Riko sighed. She didn't know why she was very displeased with [Y/n] and thought that she could avoid her. But here they are now, sitting face to face with each other while their almost boyfriends left them alone to order. They had all the time in the world to talk about anything and everything.

Yet she didn't want to.

Maybe she was jealous of the open relationship she had with Izuki.

Or her Gaijin features.

That's probably it.

"Are you sure you're in love with her?" Hyuga skeptically looked Izuki. "Or are you just trying to be adventurous?"

And by adventurous he meant dating girls weren't Japanese at all.

For the first time, the cool-headed guy of the basketball team was irked. Sure, Hyuga was insulting at times and talks before thinking. Today was just like that for instance.

"You know there are Gaijins who marry us  for money, right?"

His grip around his tray tightened.

"Look I'm not saying that she's like them, but there's a possibility. You know, they're in it for the money, the Chinese for-"

"My mother is Chinese. I'm a hafu." He cut off in a tone scarier than Kagami's.

If they were talking face to face and not walking by each other, Hyuga would've dropped dead. From the glare he speculated was on Izuki's face. And from embarrassment, too.

No one would've assumed that Izuki was a 'typical hafu' at all. How could they when all that they think that hafu's are those with colored eyes, pale skin, if not, then dark complexions.

"[Y/n]-chan!" Another change of tone.

"Today was crazy wasn't it?" She asked from his bed, dressed in only her pajamas. Pajamas that matched his. "Mom and Dad weren't home when we got back, so more time for us I guess."She turned on her back and stared out the window.

Walking up to her, he teasingly threw- smacked his towel on her face. "Admit it, you can't stay a minute without my side."

"Yeah, right." She hugged one of his pillows, feeling the burden of today's activities weigh in. "You know, I'm moving away for college, right?"

"And you're point is?" He pretended to stack his books just so he wouldn't be facing her. "Besides if my parents," they were high school sweethearts like the two, "can make up then so do we. And it was during the time when they didn't have phones."

He swallowed hard. "And if it's too much, I grant you permission to steal my shirts. Or maybe take that pillow of mine that you love so much."

"That would be nice, really." She whispered.

"I can send in my puns every now and then." He laughed. "But we know that'd be every day now."

When he didn't hear her reply, he set his book down. Looking over his shoulder he found her asleep. "Oh," he scrambled from his floor to cover her up in his blanket. He didn't know why, but there was just something that looked adorable about her parted lips while she softly snored.

He closed the curtains and turned the AC's temperature higher. And before, leaving the room, kissed her forehead.
