We Got Burned

Toni's POV
"Alex hand me your phone," I say
She gives it to me and I call Cheryl
"Toni what's going on?" She asks
"The guy that shot me is here, but not for me, he's looking for you, and the girls,"
"What? OMG, the boys are on their way and so am I," She says
"Cher no, there is a panic room downstairs, are the girls home yet?" I ask
"Ya,"
"Ok in the basement, 3 doors to the left is a panic room, lock it. There is no service but I promise I will unlock it,"
"Tones," she start to argue
"Babe, listen to me, I'm always going to protect you and this family, but this man is trying to kill you. Please just go downstairs. I'll be home soon," I plead
"Ok Tones," she sighs
"I'll see you soon baby,"
"Tones please don't get hurt," I can hear her crying
"Love don't cry ok? I'll be fine, i don't want you to worry and I don't want you to get hurt,"
"Ok I'm at the panic room,"
"Goodbye Cher," I say "I love you,"
"I love you too Toni," she says "stay safe,"
She hangs up just as I hear the psycho start again
"TOPAZ, YOURE GUNNA DO THIS THE HARD WAY?" He asks "FINE BY ME!"
He reaches into the bag and pulls out a bunch of what look like smoke bombs and paint grenades. Can he throw 5 stories? I know I can and so can Fangs and Pea but i don't know.
"Let's start with this lovely building," he says
As he shifts I see 3 guns and hunting knives on his belt. Shit. He throws paint grenades through windows, breaking them obviously and then he Hucks like 4 up onto the roof.
"Girls get down," I lie on top of them trying to shield them from the grenade because they look different.
They explode and the "paint" goes all over my neck and exposed arms. And it burns like a motherfucker, then I notice Madi's ankle was exposed and was COVERED in paint. It burns like hell
"Ow, fuck," madi whispers "what the hell is that?"
"I don't know, but I don't think it will kill you," I say hopefully
It smells like- almost bleach like
"It's probably a chemical burn."
"Mom it hurts. Mom it's hurting,"
"I know baby, I know," I say reaching for my bag,
I pull out a bottle of water and scissors, cut a little bit of her leggings so the burn is exposed.
"Madi this might burn ok? But you need to be very, very quiet." I say
She nods
I pour water onto the area and it seems to be helping. A few minutes pass before her throws the "smoke" bomb onto the roof.
"Lay back down," I say covering their faces
I think they're just normal smoke bombs.
After a few minutes the smoke disappears and I peer over the ledge- and he looks right at me. Shit.
"Pinky? I thought I killed you,"
I sigh and stand up.
"Thought wrong asshole," I yell back
"Why don't you come down and we can talk." He asks
"Or not, I'm kinda busy," I say
"With what?" He asks
"Planning for my wedding," I say
He grunts.
"Where are my girls?"
"Who are they again?" I ask
"You know, 2 little black haired twins,"
"No I'm not sure who you're talking about,"
"Oh you do, and I know about both the little twins, you're boys are little heartbreakers,"
I sigh
"What do you want?" I ask
"To be reunited with my girls," he spits
"They aren't yours, they aren't even mine, they're people and no one owns them," I say back
Suddenly his body is pierced with an arrow. He turns around and I scan the forest, I see the boys so I lie down beside the girls
"Mom what's going on?"Alex asks
"The boys got here and I think your mom came," I say "he saw me, he was the man who tried to kill me,"
"Our birth father you mean?" Madi asks
"Yes," I say quietly
"Mom is here though?" Alex asks
"He was just shot by an arrow so I think so, unfortunately,"
There is a scuffle down on the forest floor and I look over the edge. The man is surrounded by the boys, Fangs with the bow around his body. The man gets up and SPRINTS away at full speed.
"Leave him," I yell
"Come down Toni," Jughead yells
Alex goes in front of me and I help madi down the stairs.
"Boys!" I yell opening the door
Fangs hugs me
"Ow Fangs stop," I say as he puts his hand on the burns
"Tiny what the fuck happened to you?" Sweetpea asks looking at the burns
"He manipulated paint grenades to hold some type of chemical and threw them in the roof," I say
I lock the building up and make sure all the windows are locked and we head home.
"Mads hows your ankle?" I ask in the van
"It hurts, but I'm ok,"
"I know it does, mom knows more about this stuff than I do so when we get home show her ok?"
She nods.
"Mom your neck is pretty bad," Alex says from behind me
"I'm fine girls," I say with a soft smile "Thank you though,"
"Pea How did you find the keys to this car?" I ask
"Cheryl gave them to me,"
"She's smarter than she looks that one," I laugh
"Ya and she taught Fangs how to shoot arrows in 5 minutes flat," he laughs
We pull up.
"Alex help madi, go to the kitchen, I need to get Cher and the other kids,"
They nod and I run downstairs.
"Cheryl? Cheryl can you hear me?" I ask at the door
"Toni?" She says
"Get away from the door," I say
"Ok," I hear her say
I scan my fingerprint and put the secret word in and it flies open.
I hug Cheryl and she kisses me right away
"You scared me Toni,"
"I know I'm sorry,"
She puts her hand on my burn and I scream in pain.
"Oh my god Toni what happened?" She asks
"Paint bombs that he filled with chemicals,"
We go upstairs and she sits down to look at Madis foot
"It looks like a stage 1 burn, the chemicals have been washed out and it should be fine, I have a plant the makes burn medicine in the garden and we'll go from there, ok kid?" She says wiping around the burn one more time.
"Thanks mom,"
"No problem kid,"
They go to their room and Cher looks at my burns.
"Madi's was a lot cleaner than this, yours is spreading," she sighs "Your isn't bad either though, just a lot more of it,"
"I poured water on madis, I didn't do it to mine,"
She dabs a cloth all over my neck and arms and the puts it in the sink.
"I think you are a magnet for psychopaths," She says
"True,"
"I love you," She says
"I love you too," I say pecking her lips
I love this girl. I cant wait to marry her.
