⚠️trigger warning for dissociation—we really be hitting the 'bad things that happen' trope hard.⚠️

Sometimes, Peter felt lost.

Like he was drifting through space. Daydreaming, but worse. Floating.

Like his head was full of cotton. Like his body was walking around and he was just along for the ride.

This usually happened when he was reminded of the orange skies, the dust..the blank, vast, emptiness of the soul stone.

When one was in the soul stone, there was nothing. Absolutely nothing. One was simply there. One could physically feel nothing, and was just—Well, there.

When Peter got back from the soul stone, he felt the effects everyday. The zoning out, the unwillingness to ground himself because his mind was plagued with thoughts of 'why should I? I'm not going anywhere.'

This goes on for some time. He doesn't remember walking to the lab. Maybe Happy drove him. What time was it again?

Peter's eyes gradually become more focused as he slipped out of this headspace, like some sort of magic reversing spell and finally broken his curse. Just this once.

He realized that he's been staring at the white board on his desk.

He also realizes that the marker he was holding has been capped and put to the side.

But lastly, he realizes that Tony is sitting next to him, running a hand through his hair.

"You're safe," Tony says in a quiet voice. It sounds practiced, as if he's been saying it for a long time. "You're here. You're alive. You're living."

Peter visibly relaxes, slumping into Tony's hand. He hears Tony's heartbeat loud and clear. His head isn't stuffed with cotton anymore.

"You with me, kiddo?" Tony asks quietly, noticing Peter moving closer to him.

Peter nods.

"You're okay," Tony says in a soothing voice.

It may not be the full truth, but right now?

Curled up next to Tony, and feeling like he could breathe? Relax? Live?

He was okay for right now.

And while living the life of a superhero, that was all that mattered.
