You woke up with a start, sitting up abruptly and looking around to realize that the Quinjet had come to a stop.

"We're at our safe house," Sam explained upon seeing the confused look on your face. "Something happened, Hill informed us that the second location was a false alarm of some sort and that it's best for us to lay low for a few days before returning, just in case something could go wrong."

"Okay," you spoke quietly, getting up and letting him wrap his arm across your shoulders to help you inside the house.

The safe house was small and quaint, SHIELD-designed backup lodging nestled into the quiet confines of a small forest, supposedly about two hours by jet to the compound. Instead of those menacing, thick and dense woods you'd seen earlier as you were making your narrow escape, the colors of the trees and vegetation were quite warm and welcoming despite that dusk had now fallen, contrasting to the sight you'd seen previously.

The moon was shining through the puffy clouds, casting a hazy glow on everything as the four of you unloaded your things into the small house and went inside. It looked almost...peaceful.

Bucky laid out the sleeping bags and Steve set the duffel bags by the kitchen counter before joining the rest of you on the floor with several granola bars and bottles of water, handing one of each to all of you.

"When are we leaving this place?" you asked, trying not to cringe at how husky your voice sounded. "Did Fury tell you the date of return yet?"

"Three to four days," Steve replied.

"Steve, what happened with the second base location?" Sam questioned. "Weren't we supposed to be flying out early tomorrow morning to get a headstart? That's what I was told."

"That's what I was told, too," you echoed as you slid your feet into your sleeping bag, taking a long sip of your water before taking a bite out of your granola bar.

"I don't know exactly what happened, all I've been told was something about the coordinates being incorrect. I'm not sure, but that's all I know about the situation," he shrugged. "All we can do now is lay low until we get the all-clear signal to move out and head back to the compound, so we'll be staying here for now. We have everything we need to last us for at least two weeks, so we'll be fine, until we get the call."

"Yeah, I guess," you agreed, curling your knees up to your chest and nervously wringing out your hands. "I mean...there's really no other explanation as to why this'd happen."

An awkward silence filled the air and nobody said anything for the first few minutes, until Bucky spoke up.

"Y/N, what's going on? You've been tensed up on the entire way here and throughout the course of this mission. Something wrong?"

You shook your head, sucking in a sharp breath. "Nothing. I'm alright."

At the exact moment you said that, an image of Peter flashed through your mind and you squeezed your eyes shut as you clenched your hands into tight fists, willing yourself to forget. "I...I'm okay."

"No, you're not," Steve stated sternly. "You're going to explain what's wrong."

"Peter was---" you began, but stopped short to tilt your head up towards the ceiling so you could prevent any tears from falling. "I left without even properly saying goodbye, because he---"

"Go on," he prodded gently.

"We fought, I guess you could put it that way," you choked out, chugging down the rest of your water before continuing, "I don't know what happened. It was so sudden, and I had no right to tell him what to do, but I just...I don't know. I honestly don't know."
