My mind is going a mile a minute. I think I have paced the room for about ten minutes. I don't understand how this could be. I really don't. Some part of me wants to open the mail and find out its contents for myself. To make some sense of the situation. But another part of me doesn't want to invade Liam's privacy.
I drag the cartoon into the bedroom and pace some more. The part of me that wants to open the mail is taking control of my brain. I take a breath and shake my head. I take a seat on the bed for a solid minute staring at the mail and debating on whether to just tear it open or not.
I hear Liam's voice then, saving me from making a decision I might regret. He calls out for me, and I wait for him to come in, staring daggers at the door.
He walks in, and his eyes light up.
"Hey, beau-" His words cut mid-sentence when he sees the box under my feet. His eyes snap up and meet mine.
"What the hell is this, Liam?" I take some of the mails out. "Mails from your living mother."
I watch him struggle to calm himself. He takes a huge breath and walks towards me, standing just behind the box.
"Where the fuck did you find this?" He hisses.
I momentarily lose my words. He looks livid, the warmth in his eyes from moments ago long gone.
"I thought you're mother passed away, Liam. You told everyone she was dead!" I say when I finally find my voice.
"She might as well be!" He bellows, and I flinch. "She is fucking dead to me!"
"You lied to everyone? You lied to me? After everything, you didn't trust me enough to tell me your mother was alive? You just keep things from me and assume I'll never find out about them." Now I'm seething with rage too.
"Nobody knows, not even Ryan. She is dead. No amount of letter will make up for what she did to me." He barks.
"But she is out there. She is alive. How can you say this about your mother?"
"She was fucking messed up in the head, Jess. You had no fucking right to do this! Were you snooping around? Hoping to find something?"
I feel as if he's slapped me, and I stand up.
"I was going to do laundry, and I needed detergents. It's not my fault you didn't lock the door!" I yell.
I can't believe he's been lying to everyone he knows. And I can't believe he didn't bother to tell me after everything we have done. I am so furious right now, my entire face is on fire.
I look at the door, and his eyes follow.
"Looking for an escape already?" His stares daggers at me. "Well, you can forget about it because I'm not letting you leave."
