why the west side story revival can suck it

get ready for this, bitches.

i went to new york city last week and saw the revival of west side story on broadway

now i had been looking forward to this ever since they had announced they were bringing it back (which was sometime around may 2019) and i wanted to get tickets ASAP as possible

so i begged and begged my mom to get tickets for christmas and i'd be happy forever bc west side story is near and dear to my heart and it's my favorite movie of all time.

so i got tickets for the show for christmas and i was so happy. it was like finding out i'm seeing ben platt or somethin (oh wait-)

so my mom and i watched the movie before we go to nyc and we're sooooo excited. i had begged for these and wanted to see the show for so long.

and we saw the show.

and it was awful.

first of all, there was no set, whatsoever. there was a huge screen that would display images and videos instead of a set, which was distracting.

also the screen had doors that peaked into rooms where there were cameras and you'd watch it on screen.

like it's a kinda cool idea,

BUT WE PAID $300 TO SEE A LIVE SHOW

not a movie.

and they'd come out onstage a little and sing and dance but you'd watch it on screen like 40% of the time.

also-

the scene where anita goes to drugstore to warn tony about the sharks and the rumble, the jets are there and they surround her and threaten (key word: threaten) to rape her.

IN THE MUSICAL THEY ACTUALLY SHOW THIS DUDE PULLING HIS PANTS DOWN AND STICKING HIS YOU KNOW WHAT INTO HER BUTT WHILE THE OTHERS STOOD AROUND THEM

yeah. i got flashed. it was NOT FUN. i was so uncomfortable, it was so bad.

also one of the actors posted nude pics of another costar (i'm p sure. it may be diff but it's what i heard-) but i saw his understudy at least

i was so disappointed in the show.

AND THEY CUT OUT SONGS. they cut maria's song "i feel pretty" which was like A HUGE SONG and FREAKING "somewhere" WHICH IS THE  A N T H E M  OF THE SHOW

also it was wayyyyy modernized, which really took away the meaning of the story. like it's west side story! you can't modernize it! what are you gonna do next? modernize grease? hairspray?

there's a reason things are set in the time period they're set in.

i mean truthfully the only thing the modern show did was add in a gay couple in one of the dance scenes.

the only good thing about the show was the singing and dancing. and the music i guess.

SO FOR ALL OF YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO WEST SIDE STORY BEING REVIVED
