CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Just after breaking the news, Hoseok witnessed Anna fall into crumbles again. He knew that she was already going through an emotional drain, but not telling her about granny's death would've tossed her into a world of regret for not being there for Sara.

Anna rung up Sara immediately and spoke to her, the two girls drowning in their tears of loss and grief of not being there for each other.

And now, here they were, driving to Sara's countryside town where Granny was being buried. The worst part was that, Jungkook too was in the backseat of Hoseok's car, but no words were exchanged. The atmosphere was thick with tension.

This was the worst possible way Anna could be attacked. First, with the loss of Granny, who she considered as her own family and second, Jungkook's overpowering presence that Anna couldn't seem to ignore.

Overwhelmed.

That's what she felt. She looked out the window of her passenger seat with a drop of tear rolling down her cheek.

"You okay?" Hoseok took a glimpse of her blood-drained face, and looked back onto the road.

"Yeah..." she breathed in an almost inaudible voice.

Hoseok took one hand off the steering wheel and gave Anna's knee a reassuring squeeze. While the two in front were exchanging words and comforting gestures, Jungkook in the backseat observed everything.

He was far from angry. He was more... shattered.

Looking at Anna's face made him realise the grave mistake he did. A mistake so bad that maybe he would never be forgiven. He would never get his girlfriend back.

It was as if a typhoon had hit their lives, snatching away every good thing they shared together. And that typhoon was none other than Jungkook's possessiveness and jealousy and his inability of trusting his own girlfriend. His best friend that he knew since they were 6. His best friend that he was supposed to know better than she knew herself.

"We're here." Hoseok came to a stop and turned off the engine. The trio got out of the car and set foot on the gravely ground, not ready to face the consequences.

"Anna!"

Sara called out and ran to her, throwing herself onto her best friend.

"Sara..." Anna cried, "I'm so sorry. I should've been here earlier. I'm so, so sorry."

Sara pulled back and wiped Anna's tears, "No, I'm glad you're here now."

Anna observed Sara's bloodshot eyes and pale face with chapped lips. This was so not the best friend she knew, "Let's get inside."

Anna nodded and followed Sara, and so did the two boys without uttering a word.

Granny was buried at an ancestral property where every member of the family were said to be united in the afterlife. Close relatives, family members and the priest were gathered around the six feet deep hole, saying their prayers and goodbyes to a beautiful, kind soul.

The last time Anna wore her black cladding was to say goodbye to her beloved grandma a couple years ago. It still brought tears in her eyes when she would suddenly realise that she could no longer see, touch or talk to her ever again. And being confronted with the death of Sara's granny, didn't help her ease the pain.

Anna was back home, and in a way, she was glad she was. She no longer had to surround herself with mourning and grieving, and especially not with Jungkook.

Jungkook did want to try and talk. Apologise for what he had done, but he knew that his apology wouldn't fix the damage he had done to her heart.

"Sweetie, are you okay?" Anna's mom asked, rubbing her shoulders soothingly.

Anna scoffed satirically, because all that people asked her these days was if she was okay. Even though they all knew that she was far from being fine.

"I'm fine, mom."

"Is there anything I can help you with-"

"Honestly, no, mom!" She hates being such a bitch to her mom, or anyone in general. She never behaved like this even during her troubling teen days, "I'm going for a walk."

"But, it's dark ou-"

Anna slammed the front door before her mom could finish, the loud sound echoing throughout the neighbourhood. She knew she was going to regret it later, but she wasn't in the right state of mind to think before acting.

The cold breeze pierced her skin, but it didn't hurt as much as her heart did at the moment. She couldn't be alone, because every ounce of negativity was eating her up. She needed company to distract herself from the events that took place in these past few days.

Anna pulled out her phone, thumb hovering over Sara's name.

No, I can't ruin her time with Hobi. She needs him more than I need her.

After all, Sara did lose someone for eternity, unlike Anna's loss. Speaking of which, she couldn't even talk to Jungkook.

Taehyung...

She didn't have his contact number. Just before she was about to give up and walk to the park as her last resort, a bulb flashed in her mind.

I should try looking at the pub.

Anna hoped into a cab and directed them to the pub. Since it was close by, it didn't take too long to get there. Hastily, she got out of the cab, paying the driver and mumbling a thank you.

The bell chimed as Anna swung the pub door open. Her eyes immediately went over to the crowded bar. She muttered prayers as her eyes navigated from one end of the bar to the other.

Jimin.

"Jimin!" She shuffled around the crowd, thanking the lord for reaching the bar in one piece.

"Annabeth! What are yo-"

"Is Taehyung here?" She cut him off. She had no time to clear his doubts.

"He's at home, why-"

"Thank you!" Anna already began to sprint towards the door, "Bye!"

Another cab and she was getting a ride to Taehyung's place, "Clement Avenue, please."

The cab driver nodded, steeping on the pedal to reach the destination as soon as he could. Anna's foot didn't stop tapping against the floor as she began to get impatient. Her nerves were itching with an urge to see him.

"We've arrived."

"Thank you!" Anna paid him, "Please keep the change!"

As broke as Anna was, she couldn't wait another second to get her change back. She broke into a sprint to reach the floor of Taehyung's penthouse. Once Anna reached his front door, she began to contemplate whether her decision of coming here was the best or not.

What if I'm disturbing him? Fuck it. Just do it, Annabeth Beckett!

Anna balled her fingers into a loose fist, ready to knock. But the owner was too soon, because it opened while Anna's hand was hanging mid-air.

"Beth?"

"Taehyung..."
