It was mid day, the sun blaring into your eyes making you squint and raise an arm over your head.
You were on your horse, trotting along past fields of wheat emanating a golden hue. lost in thought, not about what immediate dangers lurked around every corner but what to name your horse.
You look down, admiring its coat gleaming in the sun, then it hit you.
After everything that has happened... you were beyond lucky to have been blessed like this, your bow, landing two clean shots and avoiding a near death experience with the yiga clan and now a rare horse...
Bits and pieces were fitting together as you stare of into the distance, soon you had a thought, it didnt make sense to many but you had a profound meaning for a name.Through your life, you had been told and overheard rumours of your bloodline, you didnt really believe it but it was still an amazing feeling... to be a possible descendant of importance, you never found out who or what it was but you never thought to ask more about it.
It was dumb but you wanted to come up with a name that had a deep meaning if not that then something relating to it.
You string up random words and names from your head, thinking of one but falling back on it and repeating for what felt like hours. As you neared a narrow and rickety bridge made of logs and string, you were snapped out of your train of thought abruptly when the ground started to shake and a large boulder erupted out of the ground.
Before it could even heave its arm towards you, you had spurred your horse into a gallop, barely evading its attack. You look back to see it pull its arm up to follow you but soon give up its pursuit and fall back to the ground, you let out a relieved sigh and turn back to face what was a pillar of rock towering over the hills, slowing your horse back into a trot, you regain your senses and try to recall the names you had thought of.
It was gone, you curse yourself for being so forgetful but the feeling soon fleeted as you gaze apon a large rock formation, you could see wooden platforms spiraling around it with what you could only assume to be residential homes as they hung from metal chains bolted into the rock.
You were almost entranced by its intriguing design, nearly running your horse into someone.
"Watch where you're going!"
You look back and almost choked, inhaling sharply as you looked at what you thought was the humanoid bird that has been trying to catch you for the past few days, you quickly realise that it is in fact one of them but not the one you thinking of, this one resembled a cassowary with quite a burly stature, an orange line adorned his tail feathers, to his side was a number of rolled up parchment with musical notes dotted along its lines strapped to his belt.
Before you were too far away, you reel your horse to stop and apologise, unable to hide your shocked yet intrigued look as you stare at the bird.
"Is something wrong? I-is there something on my beak?"
You look away quickly, feeling quite rude, before you could answer the bird talks again.
"Ah, first time seeing a rito huh?"
You take a quick glance before looking away again, rubbing the back of your head, you answer feeling very embarrassed.
"Y-yeah, sorry.. I didnt mean to stare.. it's just.."
His eyes widen shortly, hearing your voice.
He stops you and reassures you while clearing his throat.
"Ehem.. Dont worry about it, it's not often we get hylian visitors these days, just be more careful ok"You don't bother to correct him, it was better that way, plus it helped since you're trying to stay hidden.
You apologise again and say goodbye, spurring your horse into a trot again, you set off towards the stable nearby as the rito shook his head in disbelief.
You're eyes fall back on the pillar as you dismount your horse, unable to wrap your head around all of the intricate architecture. Something else catches your eyes though, a speck in the distance taking flight from one of the many platforms you could see, your mouth drops as it approaches overhead, a familiar looking white rito flashes past you, you forgot hey can fly!
Wait.. couldnt some rito fly in windwaker? It felt like you had played it so long ago... it didnt matter. You couldn't believe it. The sheer strength needed to achieve such a feat was baffling, you remember a fact about pigeons back where you lived, how they're chests needed unparalleled amounts of mass and muscle just to be able to fly. It just confused you even more.
You shake your head and walk towards the bridge leading up to one of the smaller pillars, as you make your way up, you see another rito making it's way down, wielding a spear, making your heart start to pound rapidly, you figured it was going to stop you and question you but it just walks past, seems like it was just on patrol, probably a guard.
You had soon made your way over the multiple bridges linking along all of the stone pillars. You couldn't stop admiring the structures and platforms again when an arrow suddenly flies past your shoulder soon followed with a menacing laugh, gripping your sword already you spin around, before you could unsheeth your sword, another arrow was barreling towards your skull, you dive behind a tree as another rito not far ahead starts running towards you with its spear ready.
Before it could get close, a yiga clan member appears out of thin air in a puff of smoke, lunging a dagger towards your throat, you duck as the blade embeds itself into the tree, you stand back up and grab the scruff of the clan members hair and slam his face into the tree, cracking his mask, he stumbles back in a dazed state, giving you an opening, you unsheeth, invert your sword and prepare to attack with your other hand against the end of the hilt.. you gave the can membera chance to retreat, he doesnt as he reached for his bow, you dash forwards just fast enough.
You impaled the clan member clean through his ribcage, before he can land a desperate hit, you jump back, pulling your sword back out eliciting a pain ridden shreik from the clan member before falling down into a slumped mess, bleeding profusely. You step back, trip and slide down the tree, even though it was only a few seconds, your breath had become laboured and you were shaking violently.
You look at your hands and drop your sword seeing the blood dripping down your palm, a distant voice tries to get your attention but you're panicking too much, you nearly died again..
you feel someone shaking your shoulder gently, barely snapping you out of your panicked state.
You look up to see the rito that was running towards you talking to you but its words just fly over your head, it pulls you up to your feet and leads you up a set of stairs and sits you down on a bench and runs off to retrieve your sword. You come to seeing the sword being handed back to you, you grab it and thank the rito with a guilt ridden tone, catching the rito's attention.
"Hey, look at me."
You look up to see it lay a wing on your shoulder.
"Dont feel bad.. that yiga scum had it coming.. stay here ok, I have to inform the elder about this."
He runs off up the stairs and around the corner, leaving you to to dwell on what has happened.
You've never killed anyone before and it sickened you to your core thinking about the way the clan member fell... you then think about your first encounter in the woods.
You let you head fall into you hands as you tremble and shake, after a while it ceases and you start to wonder if that rito is coming back.
You decide to clean your sword while you wait, pulling out a dirty rag, you start to wipe away the blood from your sword, trying not to think about what you did.
Not that it helped much..
