As everyone spoke, an image was burning itself in the back of your head, tearing away at you piece by piece.

The sun had just risen over the peaks, grass covered in morning dew, mist slowly seeped through the village entrance and birds began to tweet and chatter over the hill tops.

Link had finished cooking, handing everyone a few skewers of mushrooms and greens with a dash of spice.

You only just realise how long you had gone without food.
You take a bite.

"Whoa.. this is good."

Link smiles and starts eating.

Some time passed as everyone ate, mostly staying quiet.
You glance over to see Link had finished his food while you just finished one.

"You must really like food, huh?"

Daruk chuckles at the remark.
"He could eat an ox if no one stopped him."

"I have no doubt he could."

Finally finishing your food, you stood up and brushed yourself off.

"Im gonna go check on Fortan."

Everyone spoke in unison.
"Fortan?"

"My horse."

Link stood up, signing words to you.

"Ill join you, I can go check on Epona and keep you company."

"Thanks."

The two of you head along the narrow valley and up to the entrance.

Something was off... it was silent.
Too silent.

You start to whisper.

"Link? The gaurds are usually up by now, right?"

He looks over to you and nods.

You pull out your sword.

Link pulls out his sword and takes a few steps from the entrance, letting out a shocked gasp.

You run out to see tents smouldering, torn and burnt to ashes.
Soldiers strewn across the hills, some had broken blades protruding from their lifeless bodies while the rest were missing entire limbs.

You hear a groan from behind you, you grab Link's shoulder.

"I need you to head back and grab the others."

He shook his head, heels dug in and ready for anything.

"Im not taking no for an answer, ok.
Go."

He gives you a questionable look for a moment but drops his guard, books it down the valley and out of sight.

You turn towards where you heard the groan and investigate.

It didnt take long to find what made the sound.

It was a guard lent against a rock who looked to be falling in and out of consciousness and still breathing but barely.
You rush over, falling to your knees.

"Hey! Can you hear me?!"

He coughs up blood and looks at you, speaking faintly.

"T-t.."

"H-hey, dont talk ok.. try and stay awa-"

"Th-They're.. still.. h-h.."

You watch the gaurds head fall back as his last breath left his lungs.

As the gaurd layed motionless, the others emerged from the valley, Revali already spotted you, seeing you frantically wave your arm.
Practically screaming to fall back.
