Birthday Ball Part 1

CHAPTER 51

Mia's POV

We quickly hopped on the flight back to the states after we got back to the mainland. We had some fun in the plane and then had a chance to sober up and take a nap. About 7 hours into the flight I woke up and Mattia had already brought me a coffee.

"Goodmorning, Angel." He placed a soft kiss on my lips and I smiled.

"Morning, Orso." I took the coffee and asked him if we were close.

"We only have a couple hours left until we land." He sat down next to me and just couldn't keep his hands off of me.

"I should take a shower." I said, as I started to get out of bed.

Then Mattia's hands plopped me back down and held me tight.

"Nooo, you have time! Stay with me right now!" He said in his 'pretty please' voice.

I noticed that he has been pretty clingy lately and I was suddenly curious.

"You know I didn't peg you for the clingy type." I smirk and he wraps his arms around my waist a little tighter, pulling himself closer into me and burying his face in the crook of my neck.

"Neither did I." He says, while kissing and sucking the sensitive places of my neck and collar bone.

"So... are we going to talk about the- uh... party?" I asked, dreadful of this conversation that needed to take place.

"What about it?" He didn't stop kissing my neck so I cupped his face in my hands and made him look me in the eyes. I waited for him to say something.

And finally... he speaks! "I didn't get to show you the hills." And I wasn't expecting him to say... that.

"What are you talking about?" I ask, looking at him, confusion written all over my face.

"The place that I cherish most in the world." He says.

"What do you mean, we went and had a lot of fun." By now I was even more confused.

"No... I took you to Capri... but that isn't it."

"Then why were we there?" I asked.

"Because the place is in Capri." He had this dreamy look in his eyes as he looked at mine and I realized he hadn't looked away the whole time. Now I understood.

"The hills." I said, realizing what he was talking about.

"Yes... The hills... they are my favorite and I never got to show them to you. I would have loved to see them with you. The view... the trees, the cliff to the beautiful ocean, the line where the sun separates the sky and water when it sets." He let a pained smile cross his face and I gave him a quick kiss on the lips.

"I'm sorry you didn't get to see them." I said.

"Don't be... I see them every time I look into your eyes." He returns the  quick kiss and looks at me again with a happy  expression.

"Next time." He promises, and I can't help but wince. Of course my Orso noticed right away, because he takes my chin and lifts it so that I'm looking at him. "What's wrong, Mia Bellezza? What's on your mind?"

"The party...  the girls... the engagement... us... will there even be a next time?" I feel a tear sting my eye as I think of our time coming to an end. After everything. My chest clenches and I continue. "How can we be together when you're engaged. I know I won't be able to do that... not even if it's not a secret. I can't just be your side piece."
