Chapter 7: Lies Behind

Leonor's POV

The moment my car was in front of the gates, I opened the gates which I can control via my vehicle. I really hope my wife's home. Nakauwi na lang ako, wala pa ring reply talaga.

As soon as I stepped inside, I shouted, "Love?" I could only hear the echoes of my own voice.

When I entered the kitchen, I saw her, but it wasn't just her — Leila was also present. They were both sitting on the stools placed near the kitchen counters. It looks like matagal na silang nag-uusap dito.

"Oh? Akala ko ba di mo alam nasaan si Theresia?" I asked Leila, looking directly at her while I approach my wife for a kiss. "You're home na pala, Pangga!" Theresia stood up to kiss me back.

"Ah- eh.. kakapunta ko lang a-actually. Hinanap mo kasi. Kaya pinuntahan ko to check. Nandito naman pala siya," Leila answered my question. I nodded slowly. "Ah ganun? Okay."

"Mahal, why were you not responding to my messages and calls? Akala ko ano nang nangyari sayo," I said as I brushed my fingers through her hair. "I had my phone drained. Charging pa nga rin hanggang ngayon," she replied.

"I'll get you a new phone. Hindi maganda yan na ang tagal mag-charge. What if kailanganin mo for emergencies?" I said and Theresia nodded at my words while listening intently. "Actually I have brand new ones sa kwarto. Pinadala yun ng Apple. You can get any of those," I offered and she smiled with little nods again.

"So, bakit nga nandito ka, Lei? Ta's ang tahimik mo. Di ako sanay," I said as I sit beside Theresia. "Wala naman ako dapat sabihin," she replied. Sa akin, very weird na ganto siya. Wala talaga yung madaldal na side niya. I think okay na rin yan. At least, nanahimik kahit minsan.

"How's your first day of work ulit dito, Pangga?" Theresia asked as she stood to make coffee for me. "Okay naman! Marami na palang bagong employees. New set of staffs din yung isang department," I shared. Both Leila and Theresia nodded.

"Lei, may sakit ka talaga ata. Kanina puro ka talak sa telepono, ta's ngayon parang hangin ka lang dito," I said. Theresia laughed hard. "Hayaan mo na, love! Baka gusto niya munang manahimik," my wife said, so I nodded.

"Mark challenge ka ata?" I told Leila. "Wala! Ano ka ba? Hindi ko lang bet magdaldal ngayon," Leila finally spoke. "Jusko? What a miracle! OTW ka na para mabiyayaan ng pasensya, Lei. Ang bait-bait mo ngayon," I said and she punched my shoulder.

"Mas mabuti na yung ganun kesa sa naglilihim, 'di ba?" she suddenly uttered. I looked at her very intently. Her words came out of nowhere. "Ha? Sinong naglilihim?" I asked.

"Wala! Wala, ga... Nagdadrama nga si ate Lei kanina. Kaya ganyan siya.." Theresia spoke for my best friend already. "Ahhh.. Yun pala ayaw mong malaman ko 'no! May pinagdadaanan ka!" I said to tease Leila and she just groaned. "Jusmiyomarimar!"

"Bakit? Sino ba naglilihim sayo?" I approached Leila and sat beside her on the couch instead. Pinipindot-pindot ko rin yung pisngi niya para lalong mairita. Her hands stopped my fingers and uttered, "Wala ano. Joke-joke lang yun."

"Hoy pero yang lihim na mga ganyan, di maganda yan ha. Mahirap yan! Mas mabuting pinapaalam natin sa kung sino man karapat dapat na may malaman." I said.

My wife handed me the coffee she made and sat in front of Leila and I. "Thank you, love." I said and she just gave me a smile.

"Ang mahirap jan sa lihiman na ganyan talaga, grabe makasira ng relasyon yan. Trust takes seconds to break, but takes long to build. So, dapat iniingatan talaga." I said and Leila started coughing. I patted her back to help her out.
