This is a story of engines that work together. They live on a railway called the D&D railway. They live happily here. There are branch lines that lead to stations and quarries, docks and yards.
Before the railway grew, There was only one engine. There were a few stops on the line and a small shed. The engine that worked there was called Dan. He loved his little life, as fun things happened every day. Every morning, Dan would stop at his first station. The controller would arrive with his wife and son, and they would get into the first coach, David.

Dan worked his hardest on the new mainline. But he began to be used less and less. Finally, he was put in the shed to watch the other engines work.
