I remember the Beatle records were vinyl, 45 or albums, no tapes or CDs yet
Playing them was listening to the representation of great engineer work in the studio
In Britain, all recording was done in monoBefore the American modernization, of course
We still needed people and simple mechanical aids
Not machines that paint pictures for you and do your homework
Replacement is one of the "R" words infiltrating our daily dialogThe Beatles, for instance, were iconic but not sacred enough to escape the "R" movement
Geoff Emerick engineered the Beatles Sgt. Pepper's album and everything from then on
It was noted that the music lacked nothing at all
Artfully mixed and engineeredReplacement reasoning took over
America wanted to sell Beatles music in America
Record companies received mono masters from London's BBC Studios
America couldn't leave anything alone, they remastered it, another "R" word
Stereo was brand new and everything will now be in stereo
No regard was given to Emerick's original sound mix
So, it was torn in half, then reconstitutedRe-recording and remastering replaced the real recording mix
Disrespectful replaced rightful recording representation, rrrr
Really?
Ignoring the expert engineer's original studio mix to accommodate the new stereo equipment flooding the American retail marketplace
The original mono studio mix is preferred by knowledgeable historically aware Beatles enthusiastsDigital techno geeks are obsessed with changing all things until nothing original will be available, be it tech or even food
There'll be nothing left in its original form
Someday, maybe you'll be getting for Christmas the long awaited well advertised hands-free Electronic Fork
Also, you may receive the new latest gift item, "Chew-For-You", the digitized chewing assistance device
The new art
It's like normalizing powdered eggs
Simple beauty replaced by those digital doozers
Even if there was human perfection, it would not be good enough to stop them from trying to make it digitally perfectEverything seems to have to go through the meat grinder and then be reconstituted
Like powdered eggs, digital remastering is to art what regurgitating is to food
Bon appetite!!!!
