Our Long Shadows

The wind goes unseen except for trees and  trash
Eerily sweeping back and forth
Alone and unabated caring nothing for the norm
Sometimes unseen even angry in a storm

Life is unseen, except one day at a time
Never revealing all at once, in full, no matter its length
A day adds to a day for however long a life lives
Till its death to meet

Living shadows are seen till in dark they retreat
They move when we move all day
They stop when we don't move at all

Where are they when we are no more
Big and bold in bright daylight then disappear at night
But short lives can have long shadows

It's a short time ...this living...sadly they miss more laughing, loving
Like a short run through meadows, we are sad when these short lives move no more

They leave our hearts to see forever the memory and the feeling
Long shadows, unlike living shadows, don't leave us at night
They stay in our hearts, there's nowhere else for them to go

The wind, unloved, dissapears into thin air and like us it will finally depart
Some shadows just die when it's dark
The loved ones, though, become long shadows welcomed forever
They will live forever, but sadly enough, only in a broken heart
