- Three Months Later -

"So, what do you think?"

Akaien's voice sounded far away in Aden's mind as she looked around the room that was mostly empty aside from the bed, dressers, and night stand. The room was hers but it didn't feel like it belonged to her. Or that she belonged here.

"It looks great, Kai." Aden replied forcefully, "Thank you."

While the last month had been hard on her, she knew it had been hard on Kai too. And she was trying her best to not make things harder on him than it needed to be. He was trying his best to keep Aden safe, even though some of the decisions had been painful.

Decisions like moving to Montana in America. Even more so, the decision of separating from Maddy and her parents who made the decision to find a place in Canada. Dacia recommended that for their safety, it was better if they split up. It was easier to hide smaller groups of people than one larger group of six.

So Maddy and her parents were set to settle in Canada. While Aden and Kai found a place in America. Throughout the journey, Nico and Maddy ended up becoming close and he chose to go with them, at least for a little while, to be closer to Maddy.

So there Aden was, in a big and empty cabin-like home in the wilderness of Montana. The closest town was Livingston, about a twenty minute drive. The town where Aden would begin school next week. But the cabin was perfectly hidden away in the woods, which made perfect for privacy and protection on full moons.

Aden stepped towards the glass doors that led out to a small balcony attached to her bedroom. She looked out at the lake that ran along the side of the cabin and the trees surrounding them. It was a beautiful sight, but with the pain of losing her old life still fresh, it all felt so different and lonely.

Though trying to hold them back, Aden felt the tears building up in the brims of her eyes until one rolled down her cheek.

"Aden?" Kai asked unsurely behind her.

So much for holding it all together.

"I just..." She turned and looked at him, tears pooling in her eyes, "I miss him, Kai."

From the moment they left, Aden had felt the pain aching in her heart of losing Rhydian. The boy she loved and thought she'd have more time with. The one she thought she'd never have to leave.

"I know." He nodded sympathetically, "But he's safe. That's what's important."

And Aden was grateful that he was safe. More than anything, that was what she wanted for him. She just wished it didn't have to hurt this bad.

"And not only did I lose him and Tom and Shan..." She swallowed, "But Maddy and my parents too..."

As another tear ran down her face, Kai walked over to Aden and pulled her into his arms, hugging her tightly.

"This wont be forever, Aden." Kai assured softly, "I promise, you will be with them again."

As Aden hugged her brother back, she tried to believe in those words. She had to. Holding onto the hope that she would be reunited with Rhydian, her friends, her family was the only thing that would keep her going.

I'll see you again. I promise.

She sent through aigne, even though she knew he was too far away to hear it.
