Gloria's stomach went to her throat as they came to a stop. Roger let her down on an apartment building's roof and landed somewhat silently next to her.
"I have no doubt that you just left our friends and my brother to die," Gloria growled at him. Normally Gloria would be swooning at the fact that Roger had saved her, touched her...Today was an exception.
"I didn't, Gloria."
Gloria coldly stared at him, searching for a tell that he was lying. No tell, not lying.
"What did you plan?" Gloria asked, raising her eyebrow in suspicion.
"A magic trick," Roger smiled.
Gloria silently swooned. Ugh. She couldn't believe how jungled up her feelings were. She was mad at him, but liked him at the same time.
Boys, Gloria thought. An image of her brother flashed in her mind.
"Tell me about this trick," Gloria demanded.
"Roger!" A staticy voiced peeped.
"You didn't," Gloria pestered. She remembered Roger's invisible machine and how he was still in the testing phase.
"Sorry, but I did," Roger gave her an apologetic smile and talked into a little black box. "See you at C.S.Z."
