Veera hadn't felt this calm in a long time, the talking with Thorin seeming to do her a world of good.  It hadn't been something she'd ever considered before, that there was anyone like her and Keeva, and she certainly didn't expect to end up connected like this.

She'd actually felt comfortable going to sleep that night and drifted off the easiest she had in months.

For some time, her sleep was peaceful, and her body finally relaxed into a deeper sleep.

Then the dream started.

Veera knew straight away it wasn't her own, she very rarely dreamt, and this was certainly something she never dreamt about.

She stood almost frozen on the battlefield, her heart racing as she tried to gather herself, thrown at the sudden violence around her.

An orc charged her and she threw herself out of the way, picking up a sword from the ground and swinging at it, catching it across the throat.  She stepped back more, the sword held steady, she couldn't risk to fight too much, her body would go into fight mode then, she just had to find out whose dream this was.

It didn't take long.

She could make out Thorin clearer than anything else on the battlefield.  Veera didn't have time to curse, instead heading straight for him to try and wake him up.

Another orc attacked her and she quickly rid herself of it, her sword coming in hard and fast and she kicked it out of the way.

Now she did curse, Thorin had disappeared.

"Thorin!"  She yelled out, but her voice seemed to be drowned out in the battle.

Veera looked around desperately, she wanted to hate this, wanted to scream in frustration, but knew that it would do little good here.  Her only hope was to wake him up.

She followed the course of the battle, trying to avoid as much fighting as she could, despite the very real feeling of the sword in her hand.

Finally, she saw him again.

Staring, she watched as Thorin took on a large white orc on his own, clearly worn, clearly hurting, but fighting with everything he had.

Her breath caught as she realised this was Azog, that this was the fight that had sent him running.  She watched as Thorin took off Azog's arm and Azog retreated, howling in pain, and all she could do was watch as Azog was dragged back from battle, Thorin returning to the other dwarves, starting to rally them.

She ran over.

"Why didn't you kill him?"  She asked before she could stop herself and Thorin finally saw her.

Recognition flashed in his gaze but he frowned at her in confusion.  "What?"

"Azog!"  Veera found herself yelling.  "You didn't make sure he was dead!"

It was clear that Thorin didn't understand, that he was trying to work out where he had seen her.

She forced herself to take a step back, to calm herself despite the horrible churning in her stomach.  "You are dreaming Thorin.  This isn't real."

Thorin frowned at her, even as everything else seemed to continue around them, the dwarves charging back into battle.  He turned and watched them.

"The only way I can get out of this is if you wake up."  Veera continued.  "I need you to wake up Thorin."

He turned back to her.  "Veera?"

"Yes, clearly our abilities have a sick sense of humour."  She said bitterly.  "Now, wake up."

"How?"  He asked, frowning.  "This hardly feels like a dream?"

"I'll show you how."  An angry voice growled, causing them both to jump.  Keeva marched over to Thorin before Veera could stop her and punched him, hard.

The hard hit of pain had all three of them up, Thorin cursing and Veera breathing heavily, her hands shaking as it all seemed to rush through her.  Keeva seemed the least affected.

"Honestly,"  She said angrily.  "You expect me to listen to you all the time but never the other way around!"

Veera went to argue, but her stomach churned and she had to hurry to her feet, dashing away to be sick in the nearest bush.

Thorin sat rubbing jaw.  "What was that for?"

"It's the quickest way to get you up."  Keeva snapped, ignoring all the confused stares from the others.  "If Veera had had any sense she would have done the same."  She turned to her sister.  "Now-"

Veera had vanished and they could just make out the distant running of feet.

"Veera!"

Veera heard the distant shout of Keeva but she couldn't stop now, her heart was racing, everything seemed to be crashing down around her, all the voices echoing in her head, panic threatening to close her throat.  She slammed off Keeva's connection to her and ran even harder.

"Veera?"

She staggered and almost fell, Thorin's voice still coming through clearly.

"Don't!"  She gasped, picking herself up and continuing to run.

"You need to calm down."

"I can't."

"Yes you can, you are choosing not to."

She tried to force him out but found she couldn't, the connection too different from what she was used to with Keeva and she sobbed, unable to help it.

"Veera, I'm sorry, if I'd known what this was going to do-"

"We couldn't have stopped it anyway."

Thorin could feel the tumbling thoughts going through her, the ones panicking her, things she was unintentionally picking up from everyone else, and he knew she wouldn't stop until she could no longer feel it.

"Veera-"

"Leave me alone!"

Thorin winced as she practically shouted it at him and he withdrew but not before Keeva noticed.

"You're talking to her?"  She breathed angrily.  "What the hell is she doing?"

"Running."  Thorin said simply, still irritated at Keeva.  "Obviously."

The fury that crossed Keeva's gaze had Dwalin grab her arm as she went to go for Thorin.  "This would never have happened if it wasn't for you!"

"I hardly think you can put this on me."  Thorin snarled.  "I hardly understand any of this."

"Exactly."  Keeva spat.  "And all that has done is-"

"Don't you think you should be more concerned about Veera at the moment?"  Dwalin cut her off, frowning.  "In case you haven't noticed, she's run off unarmed."

Keeva curses, shaking off Dwalin's hand.  "There's no point, Veera will come back when she is ready, unarmed or not."

But a sudden cry through the night air had all of them on edge.

"Orcs."  Balin said, readying his weapon.  "Are you sure you don't want to go after your sister lass?"

Keeva growls, tying Veera's sword to her her waist before reading her axe and taking off after Veera.
