"Let's go Mookie!" you yelled, standing up and cheering. It was the bottom of the ninth, and the Red Sox were losing 3-0 to the Yankees. The bases were loaded, and your favorite player, Mookie Betts, was up to bat.
You groaned in frustration as he swung and missed, bringing the count to 0-2. You sat down, covering your face with your hands, scared to watch the next pitch. You made yourself watch, however, opening your eyes as the Yankees closer, Betances, threw the ball.
You could hear the crack of the bat as the ball flew towards you. The crowd erupted as it flew over the wall. You jumped up, catching it before cheering as loud as you could. You stood, trying to believe what had just happened. He had hit his 100th career home run, a walk off, and you had caught it.
"(Friend's Name), I caught it, he-"
"I know!" she exclaimed, unable to say anything else as she hugged you tightly.
-
(Friend's Name) was exhausted, so she quickly left the field after the game. However, you stayed, hoping to get a chance to see the players.
"Excuse me," a voice spoke, startling you. You looked up, seeing a police officer standing over you. "Are you the one that caught that home run ball?"
"Um, yeah," you answered, wondering what he wanted.
"Mr. Betts would like the ball," he told you. "In return, you could meet him."
"Okay," you said, trying to hide your excitement.
"Follow me."
You got up, following the officer onto the field. You looked around, admiring the view as your excitement grew. You were finally going to meet your favorite player(and celebrity crush, of sorts).
It felt like your heart was going to beat out of your chest as the officer told the guards to find Mookie. Seconds felt like hours as you waited for him to return.
Mookie emerged from the locker room, a big smile on his face that made your heart skip a beat.
"Ah, so they were able to find you," he said with a smile. "I'm glad."
"Uh, I'm Mia," you said, holding the ball out. "Here's what you're looking for."
"Thank you," he said, taking it from your hands, looking at it for a moment, and putting it in his pocket. "If you want, I could sign a ball for you to keep."
"Sure," you said. He pulled another baseball out of his back pocket, as well as a pen.
"So, how many times have you been to Fenway?" he asked as he wrote.
"This is actually my first time. I just moved back here," you answered.
"How'd you like it?"
"I loved it! I don't think I've ever had this much fun at a baseball game," you said. "This has made it so much better, too. You're my favorite player!"
