Carolina sets the box down on the kitchen table and takes a pair of scissors out of a drawer. She pulls the blades apart, carefully gliding one edge along the tape. The leaves of the box snap open, and she peers inside. She blinks a few times, unsure of what she was seeing, but her eyes weren't playing tricks on her: The box is completely filled with rocks of various shapes and sizes. In the middle, peeking out from under the rubble, there is a white envelope. Carolina gingerly pulls it out to take a better look. Her name is written in elaborate calligraphy on the back, and it is sealed with scarlet red wax.
