Chapter 17

After we returned from the trip, Ken Amada moved in and our summer break finally starts. I have some reservations for Ken since......kinda feel responsible for what happened to him. I noticed that Aki also feel the same way.

Other than that, I never felt that unwanted before Aigis joined in. She can do everything that I can do, but better. She took over on pulling surprise attacks on shadows, no matter how fast I am, I can never be faster than a gun. Since she's not human, she can exert a greater force compare to a human, compare to me. She hits shadows hard and fast....... She's on a higher level compare to me. With Aigis in the team, Yuki sees no point in having me in the team. I became a permanent member on stand by team. Therefore, I gave myself a new job, hoping that I would at least be a bit useful to them.

"There, all fixed. "I smiled as I stared at neat bandages on Junpei's arm.

"Jeez, thanks! "Junpei said with a smile on his face as swings his arm a bit like he's testing it out.

"I kinda feel bad. "Yukari gave me a tired smile as she sat at the end of the stairs with a bottle of energy drink in her hand.

"It's a job I gave myself, don't sweat it. "I replied. Since I'm no longer accompanying them for the explorations, I stayed back as support and first aid team. I figure if we can save the sps and money in healing our members, Yuki can get better equipment for them with the extra money and perhaps explore more floors with those extra sps. I also takes care of the tired members so that they'll recover faster. It has been working out well so far.

After a while, Yuki finally returned with the rest of the team and we headed back to the dorm together. I read through my schedule as I walked since there's no worry about traffic in the dark hour. It's almost time for my annual checkup. Should I ask Jin and Chidori to join me?....... Never mind, they don't really care about their health anymore.

"Hey, Kiera. Wanna join us with karaoke tomorrow? "Yukari asked with a smile.

"No thanks, I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow. "I replied.

"The doctor? Why? Are you sick? "Junpei asked.

"No, just my annual check up. "

"That's a good habit to have. Perhaps Akihiko has to have a check up too with him eating only beef bowls. "Mitsuru chuckled.

"What? But I just had a major check up at spring! "

"For breaking your ribs. "I chuckled as I watched them bickering. They really do look like they belonged to each other.

On the next day, I was sitting nervously in front of my doctor who's checking my medical report. I hope that the fact that I've been taking the pills more frequently now don't affect me too much. Jin on the other hand just sat beside me, playing games with his phone. To my own surprise, he actually agrees to go with me when I asked him about it. Even though he seems to care less about it.

"First for Shirato-san, things for you are the same. No changes. "The doctor sighed as she handed Jin his report. Jin took it and continued on his game.

"......... I hate seeing the both of you the most......... Makes me feel powerless as a doctor. "She sighed again and handed me my report.

"I'm just happy that you're understanding enough to provide medical checkups for us. So, how is it? "I asked.

"...... Do you want to speak to me alone or....... "The doctor glance towards Jin.

"It's fine. "I replied.

"......... November. "I flinched when she gave me a date. I even noticed that Jin nearly dropped his phone, his eyes widened as he stared at the doctor.

"What do you mean November?! "He questioned.

"To be honest, unlike you, Kiera doesn't have a complete persona, so she's already taking in more than her body requires to hold off the unstable being inside her. Secondly, she has been taking these pills even before the experiment you mentioned was cancelled. I was surprised that she's still alive after taking those pills for ten years. "She simply explained.

"But, I also been taking it for ten years! Why is that I have a much longer time than her?! "

"....... Think of her as a prototype and you are the end product. My theory is, the scientists that did this to you didn't give her something to be able to withstand the side effects of the drugs. Or maybe, she's missing something that makes her different than you. Perhaps, half finished? "Jin flinched when she said that.

"........ Thanks doctor, for everything. "I got up and bowed down. After that, I took Jin's hand and dragged him out of the clinic.

"........ Are you blaming yourself? "I asked as I find him too quiet. He didn't reply.

"I don't even have until November if you didn't came for me that day. I kinda anticipated something like this....... It just startled me when it finally came. "I sighed and let him go.

"You're not attached to life, you only live in the moment. That's what you've always told me right? So, don't feel sad for me. "

"....... What are you going to do now? "He asked.

"....... What else can I do but living happily until the end? Don't tell anyone about this okay? I rather go missing from their lives than being gone forever. You know what I mean right? "I asked.

"Thanks........ I guess I'll be going ahead of you guys. See you later. "I gave him a bitter smile and left the area.

Jin remained there as he watched her go. He mumbled the secret that he had kept for a long time. Answering her question just now.

"Greetings. "I was greeted by Aigis the moment I stepped into the dorm.

"Hey, Aigis. What cha doing? "I asked her with a smile on my face.

"I am watching the television. Mitsuru-san said that it's the fastest way to learn about today's society. "She answered in a robotic voice.

"I guess that's one way to put it. "I gave her an awkward laugh.

"Why is that do you laugh this way? Do you feel uncomfortable? "She asked.

"No, not at all. I just not used to the fact that you're a robot yet. I mean, it's not everyday you walk home and find a robot watching TV. "

"I see, I guess it is not normal for a human to see me like this. "

"You will, some day. "I smiled before I returned to my room. I sighed when I closed the door, the fact that I have only till November kept replaying in my head.
