Chapter 20

Evania enjoyed the soft summer breeze that blew through the courtyard. She had found this secluded spot off to the side behind one of the school buildings where not many students tended to go. She hadn't seen any familiar faces come through here so she knew she could have her privacy. She was seated on the bench and flipping through her book happily.

She picked up a familiar scent, and glanced up watching a young cat girl making her way through the courtyard smiling and waving at everyone who gave her any attention. Evania didn't reconize the girl at first, having rarely seen the young Lattamer. But she reconized the familiar scent of the Fox Goddess on her as she walked by.

The cat's ears stood up tall as her smile brightened and she made her way over. "You're Evania right?" She asked.

Evania nodded a bit. You're Kai's sister?

"Indeed." The cat offered her hand politely, her fluffy tail swayed back and forth playfully. "My name is Nebit."

Evania shook her hand with a soft smile. She went to ask in sign, but paused realizing the girl probably wouldn't be able to understand it. She moved her arms behind her back and continued to send out her thoughts instead. We're you looking for me?

"Kai mentioned I might be able to find you here. She said you like to read over here." The cat confessed.

How does Kai know where I go?  I've never seen her here.

"She's a Seer." Nebit chuckled to herself. "She knows I tend to get bored easily so she sent me here to bother you."

Should I be glad?

"I can leave if you want to be alone." Nebit laughed. "Kai probably figured I can keep you busy till your next class."

I'm done with classes for the day. I'm waiting for Sylvia.

Nebit's smile seemed to grow. "You're best friends with Sylvia right?"

Girlfriend.

The thought slipped through her mind before she could stop in. She knew that the council knew about them dating, but she honestly didn't want to just tell everyone. Though, Nebit couldn't have been bad right? Kai's parents adopted her for a reason.

Nebit seemed to hear the internal struggle as Evania berated herself for telling her, getting the cat's ears to tilt to the side a bit as she relaxed. "Best friend." Nebit gave her a thumbs up. "Got it."

Evania smiled softly at the cat's kindness. Why do you ask?

"Sylvia helps me tease Kai and Zali." Nebbit shrugged. "I was wondering if you would help me with it too."

Depends.

"I don't like to do anything crazy. I just like to tease them. Sylvia makes it easy to tease Zali because she's always going to her about succubus things. She likes to try and do nice things for Isirona, but sometimes Sylvia gives her weird ideas that Zali takes back to Isirona. Thankfully Isirona finds them funny herself, but it embarrasses Zali either way."

How do you torment your sister? Hopefully not like how Vanessa and Zali go at it.

"Of course not. Thankfully I'm not an obnoxious Irish vampire who enjoys dirty jokes and heavy drinking." Nebbit retorted with a roll of her eyes, getting Evania to snort as she tried to hold back her own laughter. A shiver ran down Nebbit's spine as the spark of magic slipped past Evania's lips. The magic wasn't painful, but it brought a huge smile to Nebbit's face.

Evania herself didn't mind the reaction, as she understood it to be difficult to hold back laughter sometimes. Plus, she was sure Nebbit wouldn't have even realized it was magic that made her laugh, and not simply seeing someone else enjoy her joke that brought the smile to her face.
