A/N: I've never really realised just how many people died before the first floor was cleared, at least 2000 players were dead by December, the game started on November 6th- more than half (3,853) of all the deaths in SAO died within the first month. Wanted to do some research to make sure this next chapter didn't create any inconsistencies and just found that a interesting titbit. >

It had been five days. Five long and gruelling days since all of us players in Aincrad realised that we were now trapped within the world of Sword Art Online: the game that we had all been so excited to play just hours before the announcement.

And I had been spending these last five days entirely on my own, with nearly no contact with any other players since that first day. After all, I didn't start playing this game with any friends, and I didn't really have the confidence to just stroll up to some random people and ask them to form a group with me. But that's probably for the best... after all, it means I'll get all of the experience points from these monsters for myself. The Col and loot drops are all mine too.

*STAB* *SHATTER* – *STAB* *SHATTER* – *STAB* *SHATTER*

Having spent practically the entire past 120 hours out here on the Field of the First Floor, I had managed to make some really good progress now. With me conquering most all of the Floor's available land to explore. There wasn't much left on this floor now that really felt like much of a challenge to me now, even with my weapon still being kinda outdated for the level of mobs I'm fighting now.

*STAB* *SHATTER* – *STAB* *SHATTER* – *STAB* *SHATTER*

Y/N: "Huh. These 'Little Nepenthes' enemies are a lot easier to handle than those damned Dire Wolves were. Glad I finally out-levelled those things, but... these new mobs aren't giving so much experience points anymore either, and they are way more gross to look at and fight..."

It was quite fortunate that there didn't seem to be any 'features' in place that forced players to sleep at night

It was quite fortunate that there didn't seem to be any 'features' in place that forced players to sleep at night. I assume that would come into play later on in the world, with time-sensitive quests or quests that only can be completed at night.

And so it seems that the brain still reigns supreme when it comes to consciousness in here. After all, this is the only reason I was able to grind away at these mobs for such a dedicated stint of time. Back in the real world I used to spend many a sleepless night playing games only to attend school the next day and pretend that nothing was wrong. I was quite used to the feeling of being sleep-deprived and yet needing to still do things.

*STAB* *SHATTER* – *STAB* *SHATTER* – *STAB* *SHATTER*

And yet? I really should think about heading on back to one of the two towns soon, before I get too tired out here and make a critical mistake that very well might throw all my time and effort away — I can definitely feel the need for sleep loudly nagging away in the back of my mind.
