Unlike the Village Chief, the villagers were selfish and devious. To them, hatred must be avenged, and even people who do not have grievances would still be stepped on. Undoubtedly, they couldn’t believe that Grandma Xuan, whom they bullied in the past, not only did not take revenge, but was also planning on giving them money.

The crowd scorned in their hearts. This clearly stank of a conspiracy. Surely the Xuan family wanted to retaliate against them. However, they won’t fall for it.

Meanwhile, Grandma Xuan sat on a chair nearby, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law standing next to her. She merely looked on at the village people with different expressions as a cold smile appeared on her lips.

Not long after, she stood up and moved Wei Mingyan’s hand away from holding her as she said, “I’ll go up by myself.”

The cane fell to the ground as the old lady, dressed in all her splendor, walked up firmly on stage.

Although the villagers called it a stage, in fact, it was just a small brick platform. She stood beside the Village Chief and cleared her throat. “I have lived in this village all my life.”

“I have stood in the fields with my back facing the sky, enduring endless suffering.”

Some villagers bowed their heads guiltily, because everyone here knew that at least half of these hardships were their fault.

“However, I now have a good granddaughter and a good grandson-in-law. Therefore, I’m not worried about eating and drinking now, and I can sit back every day to enjoy my blessings.”

“My granddaughter is now engaged in land development projects. I am a long-standing villager of this community. Of course, if there are good things, we must think about our village first. After this project is over, everyone who participates can earn at least 50,000 yuan, in order to thank everyone for taking care of me this whole time!”

She emphasized these words, her face expressionless, “This project was especially given to our village. If you want to be part of it, just come over and sign the contract.”

Grandma Xuan was telling the truth, but unfortunately no one believed it.

Everyone suspected that this was definitely a conspiracy.

They all treated the Xuan family badly from the start. How could the Xuan family still be thinking of their interests?

If they were treated like that themselves, it would be nice for them not to kill those people.

Qiu Wu merely stood at the edge of the crowd as he looked at the old lady standing on the stage.

He noticed how she wore comfortable clothes. On top of that, although she was expressionless, he could see that she hasn’t been wronged. That’s good, he thought. She was such a good person, and she should no longer suffer hardships.

Under the surprised eyes of everyone, as if watching a fool, Qiu Wu walked through the crowd slowly and stepped onto the stage.

He then said, “I’ll sign it.”

“Qiu Wu isn’t in his right mind. He is the one the Xuan family hates the most. Now, he is sending himself to the door. Isn’t this stupid?”

(TNote: he sent himself to the door = metaphor; he went into trouble/suffering by himself.)

“Yes, I think he became more and more stupid recently. Today, I took some food from his field, but he didn’t notice. But really, even if he dared to yell at me, I’ll call some brothers and beat him to death.”

“Really? Then I’ll go take a few of them later.”

Qiu Wu could clearly hear those people at the bottom speaking their mind out loud. Regardless, he signed his name on the white piece of paper, feeling as if he was giving his life away.
