By the time the fire was finally put out, it was already very late into the night. Most of the citizens had already fallen asleep, blissfully unaware of how many lives were lost tonight. On the other hand, there were also people who were woken up from their sleep to attend to work because of this incident.

Doctors and nurses who weren’t on duty tonight suddenly received calls for them to return to work quickly. There were too many casualties, and all major hospitals had their work cut out for them. Yin Zhuo, who had just been lying down for less than an hour, received a summons as well.

The operation he did today seemed endless, and he was kept busy until midnight before he got off work. Furthermore, he also had a major operation to attend to early tomorrow morning. As he planned on taking whatever rest he could, Yin Zhuo randomly padded his stomach with snacks after work, went home, and fell asleep without taking a bath. In his sleep, he dreamed that he had rested for 10 days in a row. Then, he received a phone call that jolted him awake. The middle-aged man struggled to get out of bed, wiped his face quickly, put on his shoes, and walked to the hospital.

His wife was also a doctor, but she was an obstetrician and gynecologist, and she worked the night shift tonight. When the two were buying a house, they deliberately bought one close to the hospital so that they could come over as quickly as possible in case of an emergency.

As he walked, Yin Zhuo saw an ambulance whizzing by.

Although it was already late at night, the road was busy, and people were out and about. Those who were slightly injured didn’t take an ambulance, but drove by themselves or were brought to the hospital by their relatives. Some residents who hadn’t slept came downstairs to inquire about what happened.

Yin Zhuo slept for an hour in total, and at the moment, when the cool breeze blew in the evening, he felt that his whole person was being swept away. He pressed his temples, thinking about his mental state, and he evaluated that he was in no state to conduct the operation tomorrow.

The middle-aged man then walked onwards to the hospital with weak footsteps. Suddenly, when he reached the stop sign at a junction, he lost his focus for a moment, and a scream echoed in his ear. Confused, he looked back to see a group of people surrounding the stop sign, but he could not for the life of him figure out what they were looking at.

As usual, when something lively happened, a crowd would gather.

Yin Zhuo didn’t like to spectate these things, and the hospital urgently needed manpower anyways, so he quickened his pace and ignored the excitement behind him. He still felt very weak, wondering if cold wind in the middle of the night was exacerbating it. Yet, with every step he took away from the stop sign, he felt his discomfort lessen, and his whole body felt more refreshed.

Soon, he entered the hospital where people were coming and going, and squeezed through the crowd towards his own department. The surgery department had become a mess now. Doctors and nurses came and went in a hurry, not even greeting Yin Zhou in passing. He couldn’t find the director anywhere, so he went to his office, put on a white coat, and started to treat the patients’ wounds.

“It hurts… It hurts…”

Sitting down at the hallway was a patient whose arm was cut off, and he was bleeding profusely. His body had wounds scattered all over as well. His face was contorted as he shouted in pain while pressing his arm to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, no matter how strongly he pressed it, blood still flowed out.

Although doctors and nurses were busy passing by along the hallway, no one noticed this patient, who was practically sitting in a puddle of his own blood.
