All decorum tossed out the window, Cat Noir carries me to the nearest house, which happens to be the Agreste Mansion. Adrien and I are friendly at school, but I'm not entirely comfortable alone in his room.

Cat Noir lowers me down gently, right next to Adrien's bed.

"You're not out of danger yet, darling," says Cat Noir, smirking. "I know the guy that lives here, and he'd be chill with you hanging here until, you know, I make the world safe again."

"The world?" I arch an eyebrow. "Try Paris, before you start getting ahead of yourself."

"I'm always ahead of myself."

"I can see," I say dryly. "Are you sure Adrien's okay with me being here?"

"Oh, you know Adrien?" Cat Noir ruffles a hand through his already messy blonde hair. "Tall, blonde and deviously good-looking?"

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were describing yourself," I say, shaking my head.

"Never, never," Cat Noir says. "Alright, well, I'd better go. When Adrien comes back, just let him know you're a --" he winks, "good friend of mine. That should clear everything up."

The boy spins on his heels, climbing nimbly out the window.

I watch out the open curtains as he jumps over buildings, large strides with his silver pole.

That boy knows how to charm.

A few minutes later, my phone starts ringing.

"Hey, Marinette," I answer. "Extinguished Lightning Bolt yet?"

"The flame is out," she replies, and I can hear the smile in her voice. "Where you at?"

I sigh. "Adrien's. Cat Noir randomly dropped me here."

"What?!" Marinette shrieks through the phone. "Hang on—I'm coming."

Before I can reply, the sound of footsteps fills my ears.

"Shoot, he's coming—gotta go." I hang up, cutting off her protests.

Adrien steps into the room. "Y/N? What are you doing in here?"

Is that a false note of surprise?

"Well..." I lean against his desk. "Cat Noir, that idiot, brought me here. You know, to 'shelter' from Lightning Bolt."

Adrien flinches slightly. "Idiot?"

I watch his reaction carefully.

"I wouldn't say he's an idiot," he mutters, scratching the back of his neck. "He's just...uh—"

"A reckless daredevil who flirts with everyone?" I finish for him.

Adrien laughs. "You could say that."

"Anyway—I should probably go," I say, pushing off the desk.

"Do you need a ride home?" He offers.

"That won't be necessary."

A familiar figure swings through the window.

"Oh hey, M'ila—uh, Ladybug," Adrien says, stumbling over his words.

I beam. "Hi, Ladybug! How'd you know I was here?"

"Intuition," she says with a casual shrug. "So, ready to go?"

"Yep."

She waves at Adrien before scooping me up and swinging us out the window.

The moment we land back home, Marinette turns on me, fuming.

"What were you doing at Adrien's house? In his room? Near his bed?"

I smirk. "Chill, M. Blame Cat Noir if you want."

"Oh, I will." Marinette clenches her fists. "I will find that cat and crush him!"

I laugh. "It's not like I like Adrien," I say calmly. "He's just a friend."

Marinette lets out a sharp, humorless laugh. "Just a friend? JUST a friend?!"

She collapses onto my bed, half laughing, half sobbing.

"Why couldn't it have been me?" she wails dramatically.

At that moment, the tiny red bug-mouse pokes her head out from Marinette's purse.

"Hi!" she squeaks. "I didn't get a chance to introduce myself. I'm Tikki. And you must be Y/N."

I grin. "Oh my god, you're so cute!"

Tikki giggles, her laugh sounding like tiny bells. "Marinette's told me so much about you."

"Good things, I hope." I turn back to my twin. "Marinette, calm down. Adrien would love to talk to you—if you didn't foam at the mouth every time he said your name."

Marinette groans. "If only you could help me!"

"...Wait."

I freeze at the sudden spark in her eyes.

"Remember when we used to swap?" she says, sitting up. "To trick Mom and Dad?"

I gasp. "You don't seriously want to—"

"Of course!" She jumps up. "You can talk to Adrien for me!"

"I don't think this is a good idea," Tikki chimes in, floating beside her. "What if something happens and you don't have your earrings?"

"Just for an hour," Marinette pleads, glancing at Tikki. "Just for the morning tomorrow...please?"

I sigh.

"You can ask Adrien to the movies for me!" she adds quickly. "It'll be perfect!"

The evening ends with me finally agreeing.

Why can't I say no?

This is going to be a disaster.

If I'm completely honest, Adrien is just a friend.

But there is someone I like...

Unless that person is actually—
