Rumor

It was no secret that me and JJ had this unspoken thing. We flirt and never miss the chance to put our hands on each other, but that was the extent of it. Just very touchy best friends, until a few weeks ago.

I don't know what happened but something changed. I have always had a crush on him, but it wasn't until lately that I thought he felt the same way.

So one night a couple of weeks ago I womened up and told him how I felt.

Now we are together.

Only problem is that we haven't told anyone we were going to but then we got caught up in a hunt for gold, then John B and Sarah "died", now after trying to clear John B's name there just hasn't been a good time.

That hasn't stopped people from noticing the change between us, the longer stares, and the overprotectiveness that has overcome the both of us. Then again, no one has said anything because it's me and JJ.

Now here we are at the annual end of summer bonfire, and I am dancing with JJ. I can feel the stares from the guys who wish they were him as I sway my hips against his, and the dirty looks from the girls that wish his hands were on their hips not mine.

However, none of it seemed to faze me because JJ is mine and I am his.

I think JJ noticed all the stares when he leaned into my neck and whispered in my ear "you wanna give them something to stare at?"

I turned around to face him, he had me so close that our lips were almost touching. I took a deep breath knowing what he was referring to. I looked around to see if our friends were looking, when I didn't see them I turned back to JJ and smirked.

He takes that as my yes and kisses me hard, I wrap my arms around his neck to deepen the kiss and his hands grip my waist.

We both hear the whispers coming from around us, but neither of us pay any attention to anything but each other.

After a few minutes makeout on the makeshift dance floor we pull apart both with stupid grins on our face.

"Wanna get a drink?" He asks, still smiling, I nod and he pulls me toward the keg.

As we are pouring our drinks, a couple of people we go to school with walk up.

"So are y'all like together?" the girl asks, I think her name is Brin, but I'm not sure. I just look over at JJ who is beaming.

"We sure are, and feel free to tell everyone on the island that y/n l/n is taken" He says putting his arm around my shoulder. I laugh at his silliness and then add to his statement "Don't forget to tell them JJ Maybank is taken too"

The girl kind of scoffs and walks back to her friends no doubt complaining that my boy is off the market.

Me and JJ continue to walk around the party hand in hand trying to find our friends. That's when we hear the yelling.

We look around and no shocker there but John B and Topper are getting into it over Sarah.

JJ quickly lets go of my hand and runs over to help our best friend. I make my way over too, and as JJ is trying to pull John B away the same girl from earlier pushed Sarah.

"Sare!" I yell going to help her up, while Kie defends our friend "She's our friend" I hear Kie yell.

I help Sarah up and then see Pope dragging John B and JJ toward the van.

"Kie we got to go" I yell as I run off with my friends, I feel bad leaving Sarah but she chose to stay.

We all get in the van and I hop in next to JJ. I look over to see a new cut on his face.

"Jay" I say as I rub my thumb over the cut. He just looks at me and smiles to signal that he's okay.

Forgetting all about the fact that our friends don't know about us, I lean over and kiss JJ's lips.

As I pull away I see the look of confusion on his face and then turn to see Pope, Kie, and John B staring at us.

After a second of silence, Pope lets out a deep breath.

"Oh thank god, I was getting so tired of pretending that I didn't see you too making out last week" he says.

"You what?" Kie practically screams "and you didn't tell me?"

"Woah how long has this been happening?" John B asks, still shocked.

"Couple of weeks, we were going to tell y'all but there wasn't a good time" I say

"So the rumors were true" Kie says

"What rumors?" JJ asks curiously

"The whole island has been talking about you too being together, I figured it was just cause y'all are so touchy, but this makes sense too" She laughs off her statement.

We all let out a small laugh and I take that as confirmation that our friends aren't mad.

"Well the rumors are true" JJ smiles as he pulls me into his lap and kisses the side of my neck.

"Okay ew" John B says from the front, finally starting the car "I'm happy for you guys, but can you like not mack in front of me. The endless flirting was already getting to be too much"

I let out a laugh and so does Kie, knowing that now that everyone knew there was no way JJ was going to keep his hands off me.

"Yeah no promises" JJ tells John B earning the middle finger.

Everyone settled into their seats and we headed for home. It feels good to be out in the open with my relationship because now I can kiss my boy anytime I want.

And I do.
