Cleo's POV

I find a mirror in the treasure, and I use that to sit in front of as I brush through my wet hair, readying myself for my future King of the Afterlife.

My pretty Anubis.

I have a determined stare into my reflection.

So far I have already put on my Queenly outfit.

I have put on a silver chain around my ankle and wound the silver up my leg and around my waist, where it locks around my hips. That is one piece of my jewellery. I also put a necklace around my neck with Lycan teeth fashioned from silver. I've also found a chest full of makeup, which was attributed to Anubis. I find dark shades of bronze and black, and so I do my eyes up with that, gold and shimmering black.

My hair is last.

As I brush through it, sitting cross legged in front of the reflection, my nose almost touches my nose, that is how close I am sitting. There are dark clouds gathering outside, darkening the room as night deepens.

Silvia is sleeping in a cursed dream.

Carmen is chained in a cell for possessing a wicked soul.

While I – I am waiting for my hair to dry, when my ears suddenly feel ticklish from a beacon of fear being sent my way. A strong intuitive pull swings my head around to a pile of treasure in this room, in the far back corner. I hear a small chime of some kind.

I stand up and carefully walk over, worried about what it could be in this dead land.

When I look over the treasure pile, I see the old cage I used to be trapped inside, crushed to be totally flat.

Chimes kiss my ears again.

Oh...

On impulse, I pick up a polished golden mask, and I use the reflection to show the cage.

Within, I see the trapped Queen fairy, her wings broken and her arms stuck out of the cage. She is alive, barely, and she is looking at me for help.

I was banished from the Court because of the King and Queen's unanimous decision with the Fae Court. But even so, I can't let her suffer like that. I reach over and carefully pull apart the metal bars.

She falls out onto my hand, and I walk back over to my mirror, sitting down, I am able to look at her through the mirror properly.

"Help me get home, Cleo," The Queen Fairy asks me, lying on her side, almost dead.

"I cannot help, I am mortal," I explain, "But can I help you heal?"

"Bless you. I need a... I need a... um, a Fairy Doctor Witch – they only exist in the mortal realm," she explains, "Please help me dearest Fae and I will repay you kindly."

"I will help you without any favour asked in return," I tell her.

"Why? You owe me nothing?" she asks, smiling at me but wincing through the pain that brings her.

"I cannot let another living thing suffer so," I tell her, "Oh, no, I can't. But there is one problem. I reside here now. This is my home."

"No, you were never trapped Cleo. Look into the reflection and think of a mortal place you know – and you will find a way home," she whispers at me, "Then return here via the same path with the Fairy Doctor Witch, and I might just live to fight another day."

"How will I find a Fairy Doctor if I was to go?" I ask.

"Above. Ask for Witch Eir, she disguises herself as an escort on the streets of Dire Wolf City," The Queen lays her tried cheek on my finger tip and takes in a shaky deep breath, one of relief that she exhales before falling into an exhausted sleep.
