Somewhere in the Western District, Carmilla zoomed across the alleys in broad daylight. Thanks to the tall buildings, she's capable of staying away from the sunlight.

Vampires are naturally weak to sunlight, no matter who they are. Although it doesn't incinerate them, it does weaken them a fair bit.

However, this didn't apply to Carmilla, for she was the First Vampire. Although her children were weak to the sun's light, she was not. So, why was she hiding in the alleyway then, if not to hide from the sun?

The answer was simple. She was hiding from her pursuers.

Ever since last night, the Vampire Queen, or in this case, former Vampire Queen, has been hiding from her attackers. She was able to fend off one or two of them, but after a couple more joined the fight, she couldn't hold out much longer.

Especially against the Guardian of the South, the Suzaku Head. The phoenix bird vessel used powerful fire magic and burned Carmilla to a crisp. She was as good as dead if it weren't for her special skill [Resurrection].

It was a skill she achieved after becoming the First Vampire. This was because she died and was in a sense, resurrected as something more. It was her most powerful skill, and it has saved her countless times.

Still, even with [Resurrection], dealing with the Suzaku Head and the rest of them took a toll on her body. And because she used [Resurrection], she consumed a lot of mana, making her weaker than before.

Carmilla stopped running and tried to catch her breath. Her legs were shaking and she could feel her body ache. She was getting hungry.

The thirst was already getting to her. Her fangs ached to the point where it didn't matter who or what she sank them into. As long as the thirst subsided, she didn't care.

That's when she heard it. A heartbeat. The flow of blood, pumping through someone's veins.

It was close. Real close.

Wasting no time, Carmilla seized the opportunity to find the poor soul that got caught on her radar. It didn't take long before she saw a woman. She looked young, probably in her mid-teens.

She had pale white skin, short white and black hair, and wore a sarashi and short leather jacket that didn't even go down to her waist. She wore tribal baggy pants that were tucked into heavy-duty boots.

She was really captivating...and tasty.

"Forgive me," Carmilla said while drooling. "Usually, I would do some foreplay, but I'm too thirsty to worry about the small stuff. I'll be sure to make you feel good though, so let me eat you up!"

"Sorry, lady," the girl said with a fearless smile. "If I let you do that, Kui would scold me for sure."

Carmilla soon felt a tremendous amount of blood lust emitting from the girl. She instinctively backed away and got into a defensive position.

"Come now," the girl said. "You don't plan on running away after making a move on me, are you?"

The former vampire queen could feel a dangerous aura coming off the strange girl. Not only that, but it was also familiar, in more ways than one.

"That aura...the same as the Suzaku Head..." From what Carmilla could tell, she was sensing a presence close to the Head of the Suzaku Clan.

And if that's the case, that could only mean one thing. She was one of the other guardians.

Carmilla was currently in the Western District, which means that this girl was none other than the Byakko Head, the current Vessel of the White Tiger.
