The spikes slammed up.

You narrowly avoided a grim fate as you tumbled to the ground. You breathed out a cursed before you pulled yourself to your feet. The laughter of the statues all around you reminded that there was no time to rest. You narrowly avoided the axe of the half masked statue dressed in purple. It's stifled laughs mocking you. You stared it down as you backed off, effectively freezing it in place. You took a moment to catch your breath, savoring the small moment of peace before you heard the footsteps again. You quickly grabbed onto the last soul shard as Bierce's voice suddenly sounded from the tablet.

"Those are all of the shards in this are! Get to the manor."

You bolted into the large building ahead, slamming the doors shut behind you. Fearing the wrath of the golden statues. You bolted down the halls, staring down any statue that dared stand in your way. Though even in limbo, you weren't immune to the effects of exhaustion. You found a safe corner in what seemed like a bedroom. The bed sheets were  a soft dark color. The area looked rather simplistic. Yet beautiful. You helped yourself, sitting down on the bed, wiping the sweat off your forehead. You could hear the statues shuffle past outside, none of them entered there room however. Laying back on the bed, you savored the moment of peace. Though you knew you should get back up soon. As soon as you were about to drift off, you heard the door open.

"Hello?" In the doorway stood one of the statues. This one was absolutely massive. He had to bend down to fit through the door frame.  You couldn't lie, he looked rather handsome. "Ah, a bit stunned are we?" He came closer, causing you to back up. "Do not worry, i shall not harm you."

"Oh don't worry i was just admiring you." The words came out of your mouth, you couldn't believe yourself. The statue tensed up. "What.. ah uh thank you, nobody has really called me that." He showed you a smile. Despite his golden face, his expressions were soft. The statue slowly approached you further. "Is this your room?" you asked him. "Yes, hence why it was quite the surprise to find you here." The statue looked a tad flustered. So they have emotions, you could use this to your advantage. "Well sorry then mister statue," you started. "I just couldn't help myself this place smelled soo nice~!" You contently watched the statue, who looked absolutely dumbfounded. "Oh right i forgot to introduce myself, i'm Y/n." The statue snapped back to reality at this point, as he stopped staring at you. "What a beautiful name, I am Bernard."

"Gorgeous name, suits you very well."

"Thank you good sir-"

You got up from the bed. "So, how come you've not attacked me?" As much as you liked toying with the massive statue, you couldn't deny he was dangerous. "I.. don't like the whole killing thing. It goes against everything i stand for." He turned and finally closed the door behind him. "Awe, are you giving us a private little moment?" You asked, causing the statue to choke on seemingly nothing. "Oh no good sir i have no such intentions." Letting out a laugh, you shook your head. "I'm just playing around, don't worry." He let out a slow nod, paying attention to the footsteps outside the room. You knew deep down you couldn't escape. Bernard may be nice, but without a doubt he won't let you take what you want. "Do you wish to remain here?" The statue's question caught you by surprise. "Stay, is that even allowed? Wouldn't your little friends kill me?" Bernard listened to your concerns, a soft sigh escaping his lips. "They won't like it... but i wish to keep humanity safe. Bierce does not have your best interest at heart."

"If you want me to stay with you, you could have just said so."

"I.. pardon?"

"Oh nothing, nothing." You smiled. "But if i stay here.. i won't be able to leave will i?" The creature averted your gaze. "No.. you sadly won't be. But this is a better place to stay. Instead of being cast into the void or the other hell portals. This plus is much more preferable." You couldn't deny the fact he was correct. No matter how much you wished to leave, chances were you wouldn't make it back to the world of the living. Besides, the idea of staying with Bernard for a while, wasn't too bad either. "Alright then.. but i can sleep in your bed right?" Bernard choked on seemingly nothing at your statement. "Ah yes uh, i suppose you can..." A slight smirk played across your face.

"Deal."
