Tired and disoriented in the darkness… It was definitely a drudgery to climb mountains at night. After a two-and-a-half-hour trek, Chen Ming had to sit down and rest.

He turned on the lighter to confirm the position by looking at the compass, and his sweat dripped onto the glass cover of it.

Fortunately, there was no deviation.

Chen Ming heaved a sigh of relief and leaned against a tree, having no strength to lift the water bottle.

It was probably going to rain and the air was a bit stuffy. Everything seemed awful. The sweat was sticky and the flies flew everywhere.

“Are you okay?” Zhou Nan floated easily all the way, not feeling tired at all. Besides, Chen Ming had never complained about his tiredness. Zhou Nan didn’t realize the great physical exhaustion of ordinary people after two and a half hours’ journey on the wild mountain roads.

“Uh… let me slow down …” Chen Ming said when gasping. After regaining some strength, he raised the bottle to his mouth and drank the water slowly.

Zhou Nan was very obedient, quietly accompanying him.

Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of the light that flashed far away. He straightened up and looked more attentively.

“Did you see the torchlight?” Asked Chen Ming.

“Mmm, yes.” Zhou Nan had his own idea, “I’ll check it out. Wait for me here.”

Chen Ming didn’t refute, but nodded slightly to show approval. While feeling glad for getting close to the destination, he was also nervous about the following unavoidable trouble.

With permission, Zhou Nan floated freely. Unscrupulously exposed to the light but undetectable, he had the illusion that he was becoming invisible in video games.

He saw two villagers far apart. After careful observation, Zhou Nan found that there was a large stone in the middle of the road which could serve as a proper shelter. He rehearsed a perfect plot in his mind–he first attracted the attention of one villager who was coming closer,  so Chen Ming had the opportunity to hide behind the stone. Then he kept the other villager away with the same method so that Chen Ming could continue his way.

He was satisfied with his ingenuity and returned to tell Chen Ming his plan.

Chen Ming didn’t hear anything wrong, so he agreed to the plan. Now that he had already had a good rest, he stood up while Zhou Nan floated away. They went in different directions.

Walking forward for a while, he saw the villagers Zhou Nan had mentioned and the stone used to hide. After half a minute, Zhou Nan still took no action, and the villager seemed to be in a daze, not turning around for a long time.

Chen Ming grew impatient and muttered, “The idiot is useless. I bet I can go around them alone.” As he said, he leaned forward.

One wouldn’t get burned if he didn’t play with fire. Just then, the villager turned his torch over.

The torchlight reflected on Chen Ming’s face. He was so shocked that he hurriedly went back, forgetting that he would make sounds.

A swaying bush which looked extremely suspicious just came into the view of the villager.

The torchlight remained there, dazzled Chen Ming’s eyes which had adapted themselves to the dark environment and made them painful. His heart beat violently as if it would burst out of the chest. Chen Ming held his breath, desperately praying that the villager would just ignore the bush.

However, the villager started to approach and his footsteps became louder.

Chen Ming dared not move, and had butterflies in his stomach. He couldn’t help but whisper, “Zhou Nan and Zhou Nan, can you resolve it?”

After a few seconds, he estimated that Zhou Nan could not be counted on. Therefore, he closed his eyes and began to think about how to fight the man. He changed his position to make his legs ready to jump up and attack.

When hearing the sound of broken branches, Chen Ming knew the time had come, and tried hard to jump out.

Unfortunately, Zhou Nan started his action at the same time. Chen Ming heard a slight sound not far behind him which made the villagers turn his head.

But it was already unable to stop. He still jumped up and slapped on the back of the unlucky villager’s neck. The man fell down before he could figure out what had happened.

“I’m sorry, Little Brother. I didn’t want to.”

Chen Ming was afraid to attract the attention of the other villager, so he kept the light steady with one hand while dragging the villager and slowly laying him on the ground with the other hand. After finishing that, he quickly ran behind the big stone.

Zhou Nan made a continuous sound to imitate a man running across the grass, as wild as he could.

As expected, the other villager followed him to check, and the torchlight gradually faded away.

The pitch-darkness made him feel much securer than anything else.

Chen Ming smiled and wiped away the cold sweat dripping down his jaw. He dared not delay and continued to run forward.
