41. Abscess

Chen Ming grabbed Li Muquan’s collar and wouldn’t let go. Chen Ming dragged the man to the curbside, hailed a taxi, and pushed him in.

“The

address.” Chen Ming ordered.

Li Muquan was

frightened and mumbled the

address.

The driver heard

it, but he didn’t set out. He kept looking sideways at Chen Ming, who felt the

gaze and looked back in confusion.

Without being asked to, Zhou Nan came along anyway. He sat in the passenger seat and

watched, and suddenly realized something: “Chen Ming, this driver drove us

back last time.” He still remembered Chen Ming quarreled with him when they arrived.

“Ah…”

Chen Ming remembered and gave a half smiled,” What a coincidence, we meet again!”

The driver

responded perfunctorily with contempt. He geared in and started the

car. Even though it was bright, he was still a little scared and wanted to

reach the destination soon.

Chen Ming didn’t

take their bickering seriously and looked out of the window with boredom.

Zhou Nan recalled that Chen Ming had said that there was an abscess on the driver’s neck, so he looked over.

Indeed, there was a bump on the back of his neck. However it was not black but light red. It was so inconspicuous that one would never notice it without intentional observation.

Was it almost healed?

Zhou Nan looked closer, not sure whether to poke it or not.

Suddenly, the bump turned purple and spread out through blood vessels. It crawled all over the neck like a spider web, reaching down the neckline.

Taken aback, Zhou Nan hurriedly sat back against the door: “Chen… Chen Ming!” He widened his eyes and stared fixedly.

Soon, the purple in the center darkened and gathered into a black worm of a finger long that slowly crept in the abscess.

Zhou Nan’s stomach was upset instantly. His eyes were sore, and he couldn’t help blinking. When he took a closer look, everything was normal again.

Hallucinations?

Zhou Nan turned to look at

Chen Ming. When seeing his gloomy expression, Zhou Nan knew everything was real and immediately panicked.

“What was it?” He forgot that Chen Ming would ignore him in front of outsiders, and asked in a trembling voice. Now his mind was full of that little worm. He felt it was in his flesh, and was crawling up and down along the veins.

With a bad feeling, Chen Ming sat up straight, squinted his eyes, and slowly approached the driver.

Before he saw clearly, the taxi suddenly stopped, and Chen Ming bumped onto the driver’s seat back.

“Oh my…” He rubbed his aching nose. His eye corners also turned red.

“We arrived, it’s 57 yuan.” The driver looked at Chen Ming coldly, ready for his bargain.

Chen Ming had every reason to suspect that the braking was intentional. However, he didn’t argue about it. He paid the fare accordingly and pulled Li Muquan out. At last, he glanced at the license plate number and kept it in mind.

Then he urged Li Muquan to show the way and followed the man.

Li Muquan probably regretted with a guilty conscience. He wanted to say something.

“Cut the crap! I have paid the car fare and I must prove you are wrong today.”

Zhou Nan was more concerned about the driver than what was waiting for Li Muquan. He could not help feeling uneasy looking at the dust from the taxi tyres.
