In which you see your ex once more

Listen to: Cry - Cigarettes After Sex

It was hard for you to go to school. You were lucky that the school year was ending when she dumped you, your parents were on your ass about skipping so much, knowing how much it affected you. You skipped most of your classes, only showing up when necessary.

You had spent so many nights crying your heart out, you even fumbled your chances of going national with your sport because you weren't in the right headspace. It just slipped away as if it was nothing.

You knew you should've cut her off, but you couldn't. You talked to her so often, like nothing changed, you two even fucked around for a good month after the breakup. It screwed you up. She just wanted something casual, you felt like it was the only way to have her. Even when you toned down talking to her, she was always there. Everyone you knew loved her.

And it fucking sucked.

You wanted to be mad at her, but what was there for you to be mad at? Technically, nothing was done wrong, you broke up because of both of your issues.

Over the summer you worked on yourself, trying to get better. You wanted to prove yourself. You did so well, you got better, you managed to grow emotionally, you managed to talk to other girls without ending things because of your ex.

There was one thing you dreaded when coming back to school.

Your ex. Jenna.

We all saw this coming.

Jenna was your first love. The person who made you so happy, she used to make your day just by smiling at you. You both were so in love. Until you both got into some conflicts about a past talking stage. You were going through an emotional thing, causing another slight strain to the relationship. So, she got the courage that she knew you couldn't possess and ended things.

Seeing Jenna made you flutter, and you hadn't seen her in months. You were terrified.

It sent you into a mental rabbit-hole. You don't know if you've truly moved on. You say it all the time, but does it actually ring true?

You hope and hope that you actually have moved on. You couldn't get yourself put back into the past, unwillingly stuck in a routine of consistent hurt.

It's been a week now. You've successfully managed to avoid her, which was surprising. But you kept on hearing her name, over and over again.

But then your luck managed to run out, because you saw her look at you and your friend while walking through the hall. Your stomach started doing flips, your cheeks going red. She hasn't even said a word to you, and she's making you go insane.

You wouldn't dare say anything. You can't tell anyone. You're not putting yourself through that again.

____

Before your sport's season started, you were able to show up to a few football games. You didn't understand it at all, but you just came for the spirit.

This was the last game you were able to go to before you would start having to go to practice. And, the universe decided to be a little bitch. You were around your friends, yes, but Jenna just so happened to sit beside you.

You managed to ignore her most of the game, turning to your other friends, her doing the same. It felt weird, not going to her to tell her your stupid little stories. But you needed to get accustomed to it.

You had heard that one of your mutual friends was trying to get with one of her ex boyfriends. You felt bad, yeah, but you didn't know what the big deal was.

So, you did something you didn't expect from yourself.

You felt immense blush come from your cheeks, you didn't even realize you called her by her nickname. You put your phone down, covering your face with your hands and screaming. Your phone started to buzz.

You picked it up, seeing Jenna's old contact name that you never changed. You picked up the call, putting it on speaker so you can occupy yourself. "Y/n?" Jenna's voice was cracked. It sounded like she was crying for a while.

"I'm here, what's wrong?" You heard her sobs through the phone. She started to rant to you, telling you all about the issues she's been having and all that. You felt as if you both were going back into the rythym you both used to have.

You both talked until it was midnight. "Thanks for listening to me, y/n." She mumbled, you smiled, your eyes shut and on the verge of sleep.

"Of course, I'll always be here for you to talk to. No matter what." Your voice was dying out. You forgot to hang up, falling asleep.

Jenna heard the sound of your fan and the music playing in the background. She smiled, hanging up the call and going back to sleep.
