TW - usage of drugs and alcohol, mentions of overdose and such

You heaved as you dragged the luggage out of the car. You let go of all the bags and grabbed your keys from your pocket. You held the door open with your foot, getting the bags inside. "Mia?" You called out, closing the door behind you. "I'm back! Where are you?"

There was no response, making you furrow your eyebrows and bring your stuff to your room before going to check in hers. You peered inside, seeing no one. "What the fuck.." You whispered, turning on your heels to go check the pool.

You can smell the faint scent of weed, it getting stronger as you got to the pool. "Mia?" You asked, seeing two girls in the pool. A blonde and a brunette.

"Y/n?" She asked, getting up with a wine glass in hand. "What are you doing here?" The brunette got up too, confused. You put a hand to your chest and let out a sigh of relief.

"Holy shit, I was scared." You walked to the edge of the pool, taking your shoes and hoodie off. You dipped your feet in the water, taking a seat while Mia swam up to you. "You weren't in your room when I got here."

"Why are you here?" She wasn't amused, actually she seemed upset at you. "I thought you were going to be gone for the rest of the week."

You leaned onto your hands. "Took the earliest flight home. After the meet." You paused, trying to form the best way to say your explanation. "I saw on the news, about the..." You trailed off, but she knew what you were going to say. "Anyway, I knew I couldn't stay there longer, because if something happened to you, thank god nothing did, and if I wasn't there, I wouldn't forgive myself."

"I'm sorry I cut into your vacation." She was sarcastic, you tried your best not to get mad at her.

"Mia," Your voice went quiet. "I still care about you, you're my sister, I'm gonna protect you no matter what." She just scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Are our dads still..." She nodded, staying quiet. "Who's that?" You asked, motioning for the brunette who was floating in the water.

Mia took a hit before sipping some wine. "Vada. She was in the bathroom with me when the shooting happened." You nodded, grabbing the wine glass from her. "Hey! I wasn't done with that."

"It's either the blunt or the wine, you can't have both." You put the glass down and far away from the edge. "Weed and alcohol don't mix."

"Oh, I wonder how you know!" Mia continued her sarcasm. "You're the golden child out of us, right? No drugs, partying, or alcohol right?"

You scoffed. "You've gotta be fucking kidding me. Mia, what is going on with you?"

"Do you wanna know what's wrong with me?" Her voice raised, she stood up fully, water dripping. Vada heard her, moving close to see what's going on. "Our parents are always fucking gone, and when they're not, it's about you. Not me. It's always been about you, how you're so much better, how I should be like you. They didn't even come back for me because of the shooting. And also, you're not even that fucking golden, they don't know about your party habits or how you drank and smoke. You don't get to fucking tell me not to drink or smoke when you did it yourself." You stayed quiet, containing the anger that started to swell. You reminded yourself that she was high and drunk, and to stay calm. You saw how the tears welled in her eyes as she kept on yelling at you.

You clicked the roof of your mouth before speaking again. "Are you done?"

"Yeah." She muttered, wiping her eyes. You nodded as you stayed quiet. You wanted to word this in a way that got your point through without getting absolutely angry at her.
