In which a role hit a little too close to home

Now Playing: Family Line - Conan Gray

tw! mention of drug use and suicide also more of a rant than an actual imagine

To say you haven't had the best relationship with your father was an understatement. He just always seemed to get pissed at you, always yelling at you. As you got older, it was hard to go one day without your dad yelling at you about something.

He never hit you though, he could never actually hit one of his kids, but his words seemed to hurt more than any type of hit. He knew what you were going through, but he never seemed to understand.

He made it difficult for to talk to him about your feelings, you never knew how to tell him without getting some sort of lecture. You didn't want to burden your younger brother with your feelings, and you didn't want to go to your mom about it because with telling her, your dad would end up knowing. You were all alone. No one to talk to.

So, you made a vow. Once you were old enough, you were going to leave and barely look back. It was hard to come to terms with it, you didn't want to leave your mom and your brother behind, but you had to. You couldn't be around your dad anymore, you didn't know if he hated you or loved you.

When the day came, you had your stuff already packed. Everything was ready. You just had to break the news. You wanted a wait at least a month after you turn 18, just to make sure everything was ready. You had booked a role, that they didn't know about, and you had to leave soon. That day was nightmare-ish. Your parents yelled at you, pissed that they didn't know about this. You just kept your head up.

Right before you left, which was like pretty soon after your parents stopped yelling at you and went up to their room, you went to talk to your brother. You apologized to him for what you're going to do, but you made sure that he understood why you had to, and he did. I mean, he was only a few years younger than you. He was treated better, but you made sure that he knew that if he needed anything that you're only a call away.

Your parents threatened to take your things away, but everything was already yours, stuff that you made sure that you can have and they can't. You had been planning this for so long. You tried to reason with your mom, but it was hard for her to come to terms with the decision that you were making. You just let out a shaky sigh and left in your car.

Since then, you've barely seen your family. Other than secretly taking your brother out for food, you never got around to seeing your parents. You completely iced them out, and it killed you. They were your parents. You loved them with all your heart.

Other than the unfortunate family situation, you were doing amazing with acting. You were getting roles left and right, which was a surprise. For everyone.

That's how you met Jenna. In some small movie. You two became the best of friends, she was now your person. It was hard at first, but you came around to telling her about your family, and soon enough it was easier to talk about what happened without the pain of it still stinging you.

She was so understanding and patient, something that you never had before. It was weird. But good. You were finally getting the support you needed, and it wasn't from your family. You were in love with her. Not because she was there for you, but because you genuinely loved who she was.

At first, you didn't know how to be the best girlfriend, but with time, she eventually helped you become the best person you could be. You've been in relationships before, but none could ever compare to the love you had for Jenna.

Hell, if you were talking to your younger self, she wouldn't believe that actually leaving home was the best decision you could ever make. She loved her family too much to actually leave them.
