"The Tell: Part II"

___________

"I swore that I would stand by your side, my own feelings be damned."

---------

Casey winced and she quickly clambered up the side of the building and Derek looked back and he turned around, holding out a hand to her.

Casey grabbed it and Derek quickly pulled her up onto the roof with him as she inclined her head in a quiet nod. Scott was already crouched on the edge of the roof and Casey nodded slightly.

"What are you doing here?" Scott asked and Casey crouched down next to him, as she looked over the scene of the crime.

"Supernatural business is also my business. Also, it's a possible murder and I'm an off-duty sheriff's deputy McCall." Casey said as Derek followed her over to the edge of the building.

"Starting to get it now?" Derek asked and Scott looked at them as Casey was looking at the scene.

"Well, I get that he is now killing people, but I don't get why." Scott said and he looked at them. "This isn't standard practice, right? We don't go, running around town in the middle of the night killing people, do we?" Scott asked.

"No. We're predators. But we don't have to be killers." Derek explained and Casey was shaking her head. "You get anything?" He asked.

"No. But I will use my lunch break tomorrow to get a closer look at the body." Casey mumbled and she didn't bother speaking louder, since she knew that Derek could hear her either way.

"So, then... why is he a killer?" Scott asked in confusion as Casey stood up silently and she was shaking her head at the crime scene down below them at the video store.

"That's what we're going to find out." Derek explained and Casey walked back over to where they had climbed up from in the first place. Scott caught up as Casey swiftly climbed down the building and dropped down, when she was sure that she wouldn't injure herself doing it.

A moment later, Derek was standing next to her and Casey rolled her eyes at his ability to jump from buildings easily. "Show-off." She muttered and Derek shrugged at the words, as they were now waiting for Scott. Casey was in the passenger seat and Derek drove, as Scott was cramped into the backseat of the Camaro.

"Why does Casey get the front seat?" Scott asked with a clear complaining tone of voice from the backseat and Casey yawned loudly at the words, as her eyes were bagged and Derek glanced at her.

"Because she hasn't had any proper sleep at all, since all of this started." Derek said and Casey had her head resting against the window, as she was jerking herself awake every time, that she felt herself started to fall asleep. "Nobody's gonna attack you inside of my car, Casey, so just go to sleep." Derek noted and Casey was soundly asleep and Derek was shaking his head at the sight. "Also, she didn't get me arrested." Derek said bluntly and Casey was curled up in the passenger seat, as her breathing was changing to a harsher, less calm sleep. "Oh great." Derek muttered as he stepped on the gas and Casey was clenching her head between her hands.

When they reached the wreck of a house, Scott was the first one out of the car and Derek managed to stop Casey from trying to wreck the windshield of his vehicle, as she was stuck inside of her own head. "Damn it, Casey, WAKE UP!" The last words were almost a growl and Casey jolted awake, as Derek jumped a bit and Casey was shaking as she tried to wake herself up. "You okay?" He asked and Casey nodded slightly.
