Regulus sat in his room for the first time in a long time. He hadn't had the time to be alone ever since he became an official Death Eater. But, it would all end soon once he went to Hogwarts for his final year. His final year.

Regulus winced.

He didn't want to think about what would happen after he graduated.

He heaved a sigh.

Was his brother doing seemingly alright at least? From what he guessed, his brother was probably also suffering knowing that Jayce was now a part of the Death Eaters.

But, Regulus found it hard to believe.

Because why in the world would-

Suddenly, the air in his room seemed to shift, and a feeble figure appeared at the entrance.

It was Kreacher, the old house elf, battered and bruised, gasping for breath.

Regulus quickly rushed to his side, concern etched on his face.

"Kreacher, what happened? Are you alright?" Regulus asked, helping the house elf to his feet.

Kreacher's voice was raspy, but determination gleamed in his eyes. "Master Regulus, Kreacher did as you asked, but it was dangerous. The locket, the Dark Lord's– it nearly killed Kreacher."

Regulus led Kreacher to sit on a chair, urging him to continue his tale.

He was confused.

"Tell me everything, Kreacher."

Kreacher took a deep breath, recounting his harrowing journey. He spoke of the treacherous obstacles he had encountered within the cave and how he had managed to drink the poison that protected the locket.

The pain had been unbearable, and he believed that he was about to die, but his loyalty to Regulus had kept him going and he managed to use elf magic to get out of there.

Regulus listened intently, his heart aching for the house elf's suffering. He knew that Kreacher's loyalty was unwavering, and it filled him with a sense of guilt for having asked such a sacrifice from him.

"I couldn't finish the task, Master." Kreacher lowered his head. "I escaped after drinking only half of the poison."

"Kreacher, I am so sorry for putting you through that. I never wanted you to get hurt," Regulus said sincerely, remorse evident in his eyes.

Kreacher shook his head, tears glistening in his eyes. "Kreacher is proud to serve the noble House of Black, and most importantly, Master Regulus. I would do anything for you."

Regulus couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions. He had never truly appreciated the loyalty and love Kreacher held for him until this moment. The house elf's selfless act made him realize that there was still good left in this world- even in the darkest places.

"Thank you, Kreacher. You may take it easy now."

As Regulus sat there, contemplating his own path, Kreacher continued, "The locket, Master Regulus, it's evil. Kreacher can feel it. The Dark Lord isn't worth serving. He doesn't care for us, only for his own power."

Kreacher knew that Regulus served Riddle, but he couldn't help but express his concern.

Regulus nodded, the familiar hesitation filling his heart and mind once again. "You're right, Kreacher. Riddle is not worth fighting for. He has corrupted everything he touches."

He didn't know if he was speaking his mind or just saying that to make Kreacher feel at ease.

Kreacher's eyes widened in surprise and joy. "Master Regulus, does this mean you will turn away from the Dark Lord and seek a different path?"
