141 Days to the Fall

Y/n Pov

Saturday afternoon, the day before the dance and Weiss' birthday. One of which I was more excited for than the other. I could do without the dance but Weiss was planning it and she was excited for it so I was more than willing to go with her if that's what she wanted. Of course there's also the "performance".... Well, I had a idea but I was torn between something heartfelt or something directed as a fuck you to Oz. I gave up pretty fast on the idea of skipping out because Weiss wanted me there and Ruby was upset about Blake refusing to go.

All of the factors I listed above now lead me here, helping with the preparations. At the moment, Yang was taking care of the speakers. Weiss was looking through fabrics for table clothes. Blake was presumably in the library, which was like her second home at this point. Ruby however was moping at a table in the middle of the room. Why it was smack in the middle of the room was anyone's guess. I finished tying balloons to the ends of the table we were going to use for food, and decided to check up on Ruby.

Y/n: You doing alright, Rubes?

Ruby: *Sigh* ....Yeah....

Y/n: You know, we can bake some cookies later.

Ruby: ....Don't want....

Y/n: My God.... The world is ending....

Ruby: I'm not in the mood, Y/n....

Y/n: *Sigh* Alr-

*Slam*

Weiss: I need you to pick a table clothe.

Ruby and I both looked at each other and then back to Weiss. She was steadily pushing the clothe closer to us with every moment, anticipating our answer. Both of us were equally confused about the question. Ruby had been in this funk for days now.... But the clothe....

Ruby and Y/n: Aren't they both the same color?

Weiss: *Scoff* I don't even know why I bothered asking....

Weiss walked off, seemingly annoyed. Over the last few days, Weiss has been nonstop with the planning. When she said she wants this to be perfect, she absolutely meant it and Yang was right there with her. Yangs' excitement coming from a few things, the first and most prevalent being the "lonely cat lady" comment I made to her. After I had said that, her and Weiss got together and really started to get to work.

Yang was walking our way as Weiss was leaving. All I could do was stare at what she was doing in disbelief. I've seen quite a bit over the years but Yangs uncanny feats of strength always staggers me. She was carrying a large industrial speaker on her own like it was nothing! Those things had to be a couple hundred or so odd pounds and she's just carrying it with one hand. She set the speaker down, carefully placing it where it needed to be for it to be as effective as possible.

Y/n: How!? How did you get that strong!?

Yang: Oh, I drink a lot of milk!

I stared at her dumbfounded before just giving up. I don't know how I went from seeing the darkest things that life had to offer to seeing some borderline cartoonish attitudes and acts. It was innocence in it's purest form. I shook my head, getting free of that line of thought. This past week has been conflicting enough as it is without my sinking back into brooding depression.

Yang watched me for a moment, catching on that I was pulling myself out of a dark pit in my mind. We made eye contact, her asking a silent question. I nodded my head and smiled. Yang nodded and smiled back before she walked over and nudged me away.
