Colby's POV:

First person

I was on the floor of my room with my knees hugged tightly to my chest as I rocked back and forth slowly.

"This isn't real, just a dream, this isn't real, just a dream." I repeated over and over until my door slowly cracked open.

I looked over my shoulder to see Elton standing at the doorway.

"Hey." I said, my voice barely being more than a whisper. It was pretty hoarse from screaming and yelling so much.

"Colby.." Elton started, sitting down next to me.

I looked away from him as my bottom lip quivered. "Stop- don't- I-I can't.." My voice broke off as the lump in my throat grew.

Elton continued anyways despite my plea. "I get.. That this is hard. This is going to be hard for all of us. But just know that we all are here for you." He put a hand on my shoulder.

I shoved him away, standing up quickly. "You don't get it Elton!! You guys are here but Sam isn't! Without him I'm nobody! I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT HIM." My hands tore at my hair as I fell back to my knees, hugging them tightly.

Elton just stood up. "I-I'm sorry Colby.." He went to leave but vibrating from my bed distracted him.

He picked up my phone to see the hospital calling.

"Go ahead and take it. I-I can't.." I trailed off but he nodded solemnly, answering the phone.

After a few seconds he responded. "Yes.." Pause. "Mhm, yes." Pause. "HE IS?? WHAT?!"

I looked up at him confused, wiping a few tears of my cheek as I stood up.

"Thank you so much!" Elton said before looking at me with an overjoyed expression. "HE'S ALIVE- SAM'S ALIVE."

I heard footsteps running to my room as I stood there for a second.

As Corey and Aaron burst into my room, exclaiming I grabbed my phone from Elton and sprinted to the door, the three followed me quickly.

Sam was all I could think about. I needed to see him. This couldn't be the end, and I wasn't wasting a second testing my luck.

Thank you God. I thought as I got into my car faster than ever before, Corey, Aaron, and Elton hopped in the backseat quickly as I turned the car on.

We sped out of the driveway as Elton explained what happened. I wasn't listening to him as we sped out of our neighborhood.

Sam. My life-long partner, best friend, and brother. He had literally been declared dead tonight. A feeling I will never forget. It was like the world was ending. I couldn't breathe without thinking of him or look at anything without being reminded of him. He's my rock and heart. The person who keeps me in line, and someone who makes me laugh as we goof off together. Nothing describes how much I owe him for all of these years. He's saved my life before and we've done almost everything together in the last decade.

"Colby? Colby..?" I shook my head as my thoughts were interrupted by Corey as he called my name.

"What?" I mumbled as I continued to speed through the roads.

"Are you alright?" Aaron asked quietly.

I paused. "No, not really." I replied bluntly.

Silence hushed over the car as I continued to drive towards the hospital.

After another minute or so, we arrived. I looked for and found a good parking space.

As soon as I turned the car off I got out, not bothering to wait for the other three that had tagged along.
