Lizavet fell over, shaking, as Indy rushed for her. "I'm sorry, honey! I'm sorry! I didn't know that memory would come up. Are you all right?"

Lizavet sat up. "It was only a small seizure." She realized her hands were clutching Indy's shirt. "I am sorry."

Indy took her hands as they still gripped his shirt. "It wasn't me. The person who saved you from the apkallu when you were a child, wasn't me...."

"But he looked like you..." Lizavet searched Indy's features.

"I know. I wouldn't have believed it before," Indy stammered for words, trying to put the legends together.

Emily watched her father. "You mean... the Treasure Guardian was a man... and a supernatural being... strong enough to scare the apkallu? Sounds like the same deity who appeared to Abraham, promising him descendants as numerous as the stars."

"But... why...?" Indy shook his head. "The incredible piece of the supernatural or even the natural is - after a kid has lost the only person who cares about them - is that there's someone else who might care. And that's the dangerous thing too."

"The apkallu pretended to care," Emily mused. "But... if the apkallu wanted to make us slaves... and we don't know our value... then it makes sense that the Treasure Guardian would step in and protect us. We're like lost little kids... and," she glanced at Indy.

Lizavet leaned against Indy. "And we need a papa... who will not hurt us... because of our dreams..."

"You did say, Lizavet, that it was the humans... humanity that was the treasure?" Shorty asked.

"Yes. We are the treasure," Lizavet answered. "That's why human life is so valuable."

"Especially to the corrupt apkallu," Indy mused. "Its always human sacrifice. Its one of the few constants in every civilization throughout history."

"Because we believe the apkallu's lies and listen to them about our value," Emily growled, feeling her wounds as she struggled to her feet, looking up at the sky. "Our path to Diya is back."
