"Dinner was amazing, Mrs. Richards." Eli said, wiping the corners of his mouth with his napkin.

My father introduced us all when I waited, along with my mother, at the bottom of the stairs, across from the front doors hallway. Three of the men that I've seen today were here, along with two sons, one from Charles, the bald buff guy with the too tight suit. And one from Gabriel, the man with a noticeable tupè. Eli was Charles' son and Jeremiah was Gabriel's.

"Thank you, Eli." My mother said, a lovely yet easy smile on her lips. "Marley here actually helped me-"

"No, I didn't." I stated flatly, sitting straight in posture with one hand in my lap and the other toying with the rest of my vegetables.

"She did. Don't be posh, sweetheart." My mother said, her eyes boring into my face.

I sighed and put a piece of broccoli into my mouth. It was a nice dinner, too bad I didn't know the exact name to it. All I knew was it was well seasoned chicken, juicy and soft.

"It was absolutely wonderful." Eli said, a seductive tone creeping into his voice.

I refused to make eye contact with Eli after the first time I did at the dinner table, to which he winked quickly. At least Jeremiah was shy and laid back, he sent me soft smiles from across the table. Eli had sit next to me.

Our fathers have moved they're meeting to the family room, discussing every little detail needing to go over.

"Marley, won't you thank him for the compliment?" My mother asked me.

Seriously, some times when we are around other people, my mother talks as if she's royalty.

"Thanks." I said, dead pan.

Eli chuckled quietly, shifting in his seat until his thigh brushed against mine. I clenched and unclenched my jaw repeatedly, putting my fork down.

"So, Marley," Jeremiah called for me, pushing his empty plate in front of him and leaning forward. "What do you do for fun?"

"Fun? Like I have any of that around here." I joked halfheartedly, rolling my eyes. I felt a pinch on my leg before turning to face my mother who glared at me for a second before bouncing her attention between Eli and Jeremiah.

"She's captain of the volley ball team at school, she quite good."

I scratched the back of my neck and sipped at my water, avoiding the eyes I could feel on my face.

"That's impressive." Eli spoke.

"Thanks." I said, pulling the glass away from my lips and running my fingertips up and down the designs.

I wanted this conversation to just drop off the face of the Earth, wanting the attention of these stranger boys off of me, but of course my mom has to speak up some more to impress.

"She also sings. Amazing voice."

I shook my head and leaned back into my chair, keeping my eyes on my glass as I placed it down on the plate mat and twisted its base around and around.

"I'd love to hear it sometime." Eli said, also leaning back in his chair.

Jeremiah caught my eyes because he was smiling huge. "My friends and I actually made a band, kind of an old rocker genre."

"No way," I spiked up, leaning forward, half out of interest and half because I wanted cocky Eli out of my peripheral vision. "That's cool. My friends and I have jam sessions sometimes. I can't do instruments, but I can hit high notes pretty good."

"I'd love to hear you sing sometime." Jeremiah said, smiling a million dollar smile at me that would stop many girls hearts, but its not working on me. If you ain't the one, better lucky next time around.
