"Hey, big boy." I called when Donnie's head surfaced and he opened his mouth to communicate with a deep humming noise. I slipped my shoes and socks off, along with my apron, then placed the bucket down beside me on the down step surface that allowed water from his tank to come up on it. Where this creature was place, people can go take the stairs to down bellow and watch Donnie swim, through a thick glass.

But this part of the park was sectioned off just for him.

I smiled and clasped my hands together. "Good morning." I told him.

Donnie clicked his tongue at me and I took that as a response. I like to think that he likes me more than anyone else around here. Petting him, only I've ever succeeded in doing it. The other orcas around here were smaller in comparison and I've seen their trainers even be able to pet their tongues. I looked past Donnie's big yellow teeth and shivered once. He could easily bite my hand off.

"Wanna copy me again, buddy?" I called out to him.

He made it a game for himself to do as I do, swimming along the tanks walls while I walk, so I pace just for him. It's like 'Monkey See, Monkey Do'. Lets tack on 'Killer Whale Will Try It, Too'.

I sunk down in a low squat which, in turn, Donnie sunk himself down in the water until only the tip of his nose was seen. Then I shot out of the crouch with my hands over the water to let him see that I am now standing. I kept one hand extended over the tank and he rocketed out of the water enough to touch his nose to my hand.

"Good boy!" I shouted when he sunk back in. I picked a fish out of the bucket that floated away some and used my hands to tell him to open wide, motioning my hands like an alligators mouth. He complied and I tossed the fish in, rubbing the side of his jaw.

"Lets do another, shall we?"

He made a shrieking noise and dipped his head repeatedly in the water until I pointed out into the tank, then threw my hands high in the air. "Jump as high as you can for me!"

He disappeared under the water, and I waited as he circled the perimeter, then swam to the middle to shoot out of the water with powerful flicks of his fluke, with still more than half of his body out from the surface, he fell back into the water on his side. I cheered loudly while he stuck his dorsal fin out of the water and swam towards me. I held a fish high and proud into the air above him and he opened his mouth instantly. I tossed it in and clapped my hands excitedly.

I didn't expect him to lean away to expose his white under-side while bringing his two front flipper together, creating waves. What on earth was he doing? I stopped clapping, and he stopped creating waves.

I laughed loudly, throwing my head back when I realized, he was clapping along with me. His head tilted back and he let out a humming shriek, mimicking me as I laughed.

"Hey, I don't laugh like that!" I pouted, placing my fists on my hips.

He continued the noise for another minute before stopping and turning on his side to slap his fin down on the waters surface twice, wetting me with droplets because of how close he was.

I turned my head away and held my hands up in protest, then I shook the water from my arms.

"Donnie, people are gonna wonder why I'm wet!"

Though it was only two slaps of his fin, the water collected on it and was tossed at me. Donnie clicked his tongue in what I took to be amusement.

"You think that's funny, do ya?"

I quickly bent over and cupped my hands, splashing his face. I knew it must've looked really stupid, but he asked for it. I continued with throwing water on him until he disappeared under water. I looked over the edge of the platform I was standing on, waiting for him to resurface. What I didn't expect was his tail to come up close and slap down, creating a wave and throwing a bunch of water on me. The wave pushed me back and I was now soaked, sitting in the shallow water on the platform.

"You cheater! That's not fair, I don't have a tail to-"

"Your not supposed to be down here!" A males voice shouted and I froze, peeking up from Donnie and looking at the guy I remembered was Edward. I quickly remembered the things I know about him. Eighteen, graduate, nice bouncy hair. Handsome face.

I quickly tried to come up with an explanation as he walked around the tank to come over to me. Why did I need to explain myself, what was he doing here? He may be more experienced and he feeds the whales, but he still wasn't allowed back here, like a lot of others, to be near the 'rogue whale'. Donnie was fed by a trainer, not just a regular employee like us.

"I could say the same to you." I stated, getting to my feet and grabbing the bucket of fish and ice that tipped over in the wave Donnie created.

"Well, I saw that the gate was open and came to find out what was going on." He explained, walking up the four steps to get on the high walkway above the tank.

"How long have you been watching?"

"Who said I was watching?"

"Well, you must've been. Or else you would be furious and taking me to see Martin with all kinds of crazy accusations." He just shrugged. "Dude, your busted. Give it up."

"Okay, I saw the whole thing. I was over by the seals and saw you run past the gate with a bucket and I got curious. It's no secret that you favor Donnie, just as he favors you. So I followed you."

It was a believable story. The seals were the animals towards the back, before the gate and able to be on display for people to watch them.

"Donnie isn't a bad animal." I said, peering at the whale close to the watered platform. I walked over to him and held my hand up to my waist height and he lifted himself from the water slowly to press his nose to my palm.

"Martin didn't title him as 'Rogue', Frances did."

"Donnie just doesn't like her, and I don't blame him. She's so mean to the animals behind her performing façade."

"She's the best trainer we've got." Edward stated.

I lower my hand and Donnie rested back comfortingly into the water, his mouth wide. I picked a fish out of the bucket and placed it on his tongue before pulling my hand out. He closed his mouth to consume the fish.

"Do you know how dangerous that is?" Edward asked after taking off his shoes and walking in the water.

"I trust him."

"Your trust too easily."

How would he know that? I've been seeing Donnie since I've first laid eyes on him, this is just my first time feeding him. Besides, Edward doesn't know me and I don't know him. I started working here after him, but I've only ever seen him walking by or playing with the dolphins and their toys or in meetings at the stadium before a big show.

"You don't know me." I stated.

"And you don't know what kind of things a creature like Donnie could do."

"I do." I protested, turning my body to face Edward.

"Really?" He asked sarcastically. "If you were to have fell in the water, he could hurt you."

"He likes me more than anyone else here, I highly doubt he would hurt me."

"He likes company, but he wouldn't like if you invaded his territory. He would even like me if I stayed out of his water."

"Then what are you doing now?" I asked, motioning to his bare feet in the water on the platform.

"This is still on concrete. He can't swim on this."

"No shit." I mumbled, rolling my eyes.

"What was that?"

"Nothing." I answered, leaning over and rubbing the top of Donnie's head, bent over his nose.

"Your giving me anxiety, can you please at least take a step back?"

"No." I wasn't gonna let comfort reside into the bones of someone who upset me, screw that.

Just then, Donnie came up from the water and his nose pierced my ribs while lifting me from the ground, tilting his head back, I fell into the water behind this killer whales back, in pain.
