"Is Kena working today?" Edward had asked. He called Martin to see if he could get Kena a day off so we could all hang out. "She is? Then can she get off early?..... I know she just showed up- Martin, I... Okay, fine. Sure, talk to you later. Bye."

Edward hung up and sighed.

"He said no?"

"We were both supposed to have gone in to work today, so he's short on staff members. He told me to tell you sorry."

I nodded in acknowledgement and sighed quietly. "At least we don't have to see Frances on my last day. That's a plus."

He chuckled at my attempt to lighten the mood. I didn't really feel up to anything right now. Maybe a bit of food and some sleep, but that's about it. I wanna sulk in my mood of hurt and confusion, but I'm glad that Edward won't allow that to happen. I'm happy someone will try to help me take my mind off of some things.

"What are the plans for today?" I asked Edward as he drove towards the larger part of town.

"Anything you wanna do." He peeked my way for a moment. "Anything you've always wanted to do, but couldn't."

"There's a lot of that." I scoffed.

"Like what?"

"Going to the market without my parents, going to the movies, hanging out with someone my mom and dad don't like-"

"That's a check." He interrupted, sending me a wink. I laughed quietly.

"Eat frozen yogurt," I continued to list off. "See the inside of a pet store or a tattoo and piercing parlor. Pet a dog. Go to a fair, a concert.... Need I say more?"

"Why haven't you done any of that?" He asked me, pulling up in a parallel parking. He unbuckled and I looked around at where we were while doing the same.

"My parents said that a lot of the things I don't do will take any risks away."

"Risks away from what?" He asked, hand on the door to open it.

"You know what, I'm not even sure anymore."

We both stepped out of the car, my side having the sidewalk so he walked around the front of the jeep to stand beside me. He pressed the lock button on his keys and we slowly began our pace towards the more crowded side of town.

"Do you like to walk?" Edward asked me after a moment, his hands shoved into his jean jacket pockets.

"Yeah, I do actually. It gives me time to think."

"About what?"

"Anything." I answered simply.

"Well I, for one, hate walking."

"Why?"

"Because I don't like doing it alone. I think too much when I'm alone."

"How is thinking too much, a bad thing?"

"I'll rephrase it, then. I remember too much when I'm alone."

This stops the conversation that I thought would drag on and on. I like conversations where it starts with one topic and it keeps going until you're talking about something totally different and you wonder how on earth it came to be that way. It isn't happening right now. Nice one, Edward.

Smooth operator.

But I wouldn't word my complaints because he was being so sweet to me, even though he really doesn't have to be. He doesn't need to be here for me as much as he is, and I'm glad for it.

"Edward?" I asked, my hands coming together in front of me.

"Yes, Marley?"

"Why are you being so nice to me?"
