the noise of the can dropping made sherlock jump, making him stare at john with wide eyes. john set the can back on the table and looked at his flat mate. "you alright?" he asked.

sherlock nodded asked he chewed on his thumb nail. "fine." he whsipered.

they had just gotten off a case. sherlock was being held by the suspect for three days and has yet to tell anyone what happened, but he was more on edge now and he wasn't himself. john started to think he was doing it again, but he was clean. sherlock hadn't been taking care of himself. he rarely left his chair and the nights john was able to get him in bed, he'd hear sherlock from upstairs, crying out in his sleep. he hadn't showered since they rescued him which was disgusting, but his normal, bouncy curls were now matted down by oil and he looked awful. sleep wasn't a normal thing for the detective, but now it was even worse. he hadn't slept in five days because every time he closed his eyes, memories woyld come back and he'd get petrified.

"would you like some tea, then?" john asked.

sherlock shook his head, "no."

john sighed and put on the kettle, still making some for sherlock, setting it by him, only to become cold and untouched later. when john was getting ready for bed, sherlock still hadn't moved, so he took things into action. he helped his friend out of the chair then proceded to his bedroom, helping him into bed. the detective just laid there with his knees pulled to his chest, eyes wide, so john sst down on the edge of the bed and waited. he watched the man finally close his eyes and fall alseep. he stayed a little bit longer just to make sure he stayed asleep, then went to his room, going to bed himself.

a loud scream is what woke john up. he bolted down stairs and into sherlock's room, seeing the man rocking as he held himself tightly. there were tears this time. his sleep deprived eyes were now red and puffy from crying and he was panting into his knees as he rocked. john went into the bathroom and started a warm bath before sitting with the detective. "you alright?" john asked softly, sitting in front of him.

sherlock shook his head and held himself tighter.

"can you get up?" he asked.

sherlock pulled his face out of his knees and inhaled a shakey breath, slowly letting himself go. he moved to the end of the bed then stood up with the help of the doctor. they walked to the bathroom slowly then came the hard part, undressing sherlock. john had done it with many of patiens who were in the same condition as sherlock, but sherlock was his best friend so it made it a bit weird. sherlock sat on the lid of the toilet as john undressed him, being cooperative. after the undressing, john got sherlock back up and helped him in the tub.

"is it alright if i clean you up a bit?" joan asked gently.

sherlock nodded slowly, pulling his knees to his chest.

john grabbed the shower head the turned it on, making sure the water was warm before spraying sherlock down with it. he tilted the dective's head back and washed out his hair before adding the shampoo. he covered sherlock's eyes as he washed the soap out, making sure nothing got in his eyes. sherlock just sat there like a beauty doll, letting john do what ever he pleased. john knew it was ptsd, but sherlock wasn't the man to get ptsd. and now they were here, sherlock scared of every thing and every one except his flatmate. the only reason why sherlock hadn't gone crazy yet was because every time he freaked out, john calmed him down and if he got too out of hand, the doctor gave him a seditive. seeing sherlock like this mad john feel different because instead of chasing criminals through the streets of london, having a bit of a domestic, he had too keep a close eye on the man, make sure he didn't do anything to scare him.

john had washed his flat mate the best he could, getting him to brush his teeth and in the first time in a week, sherlock walked with out john's help and got dressed. john stayed to make sure sherlock didn't fall while he got dressed and held him up when he started to tip over a bit. the detective got in bed and when john knew he was okay, he turned off the lights, getting ready to leave when the detective whispered, "please stay."

so john stayed.

he got in bed and laid on the opposite side of the bed. sherlock turned to him then scooting closer, needing the company of the doctor. john got closer and held sherlock in a close, loving embrace. he felt his breaths slow as he fell asleep, knowing john was there and not scared to fall asleep.

through out the night, sherlock whould whine in softly in his sleep or move around a lot, but calmed down when john gently shushed him, rubbing his scalp and kissing his forehead. after that, the detective fell back into a peaceful slumber, only waking up again to another nightmare, waking john up then john calmed him then the process started all over again.

in the morning, john helped sherlock to the kitchen and made tea. sherlock drank all his, eating a single biscut along with it. sherlock moved around more durning the day, and john watched his movements closely. every thirty minutes, sherlock would get up and move to a different piece of furniture. it started with his chair, then went to the desk, to the other side of the desk, to the sofa, to the kitchen table, to the other side of the kitchen table, then ended back up in his chair. it was an odd process, but john didn't care. the detective was up and moving and that's all john wanted him to do because the more he moved, the more sane he got. and by sane he ment sherlock sane. god knows that man is not a proper sane. durning the night, john slept with him again, finding that his company help him sleep. he didn't mind holding his flatemate as he slept, it wasn't weird, it felt right.

the next day, they went for a walk. sherlock got scared everytime there was a loud noise, but other than that, he was fine. they walked through the park, hand in hand and people stared, but they didn't care. sherlock had a conversation with john as they sat on a bench across from an elderly man feeding the piegons. sherlock was deducing the man, and john helped. by they time they returned to the flat, sherlock was more of himself, but was still a bit jumpy. john had slept in sherlock's bed again, holding him and calming him through the nightmares.

by the end of the week, sherlock was up and solving cases, shooting the walls and having a bit of domestic with john. he was back to his sane self, but still had nightmares, but john was still sleeping in the same bed, so he didn't have as many as before. they never talked about it, they were just used to it.

john was awoken by sherlock caressing his cheek with his tumb. he didn't understand it but looked at the man tiredly, rubbing his eye with the back of his hand. "something wrong?" he asked softly.

sherlock shook his head. "no. i've been thinking." he whispered.

john nodded and listened as he yawned, about to fall alseep again. it was too early to have a conversation and unlike the man next to him, john was a normal human being.

"do correct me if i'm wrong, but," sherlock said before connecting his lips with the doctor's in front of him.

john's eyes went wide as he woke up, registering what was going on, then he closed them, resting his hand on sherlock's cheek as he kissed back. a million things were going through the two, but they only cared about this moment. the moment that changed their lives forever. they pulled away for a quick second, panting heavily before john went back in for more of the sweet taste of his bestfriend. boyfriend? lover? he had no idea, but he'd figure it out soon. the doctor rolled the detective on his back, getting on top of him as the kiss got deeper and more heated.

this was not at all what sherlock was expecting as a response.
